“Let’s go through with our divorce proceeding tomorrow morning.
“After a period of separation, you’ll be a free man again.”
Maddy patted my crumpled sleeve and met my eyes.
“I know you’re only fulfilling your mother’s last wish. I understand.”
Even though she knew that this marriage would not even last five days, she still agreed to it.
She did not even ask for any financial compensation.
When my mother held her hand, she said earnestly, “Don’t worry, I’ll treat Ben well.
“I’ll spend my whole life protecting him and loving him.”
I suddenly saw Lily in a daze.
She had also been that serious in the past.
It was as if she would do everything that she had said.
“Thank you.”
I forced a smile and thanked her sincerely.
I was truly touched at that moment.
However, I knew that it was not time for me to rush into another relationship.
I had not fully gotten over my past.
I had to respect Maddy and myself.
On our wedding night, Maddy and I went our separate ways.

When I saw Lily, I was stunned.
I thought that I was dreaming.

Her loud heartbeat sounds jolted me awake.
I immediately pushed her away, but she hugged me even tighter.

“I was shameless in the past, and I treated you badly.

After she said that, she finally let go of me.
Then, she took out the gift she hid behind my door.
“This is the watch that you wanted for a really long time. You didn’t buy it because you said it was too
expensive.
“This is the tie you wanted to wear for our wedding. I went to four different places to get it!

I pushed her away forcefully and forced her to come back to reality.
“Lily, it’s useless now.”
When I was with her, she never wanted to waste her money on me.
She spent all her money on David and pretended that he was sick.
She only tried to shower me with gifts after I had left.

As she said that, she kept using my hand to slap her cheek more forcefully each time.
My palm turned red and her face was swollen.
However, she still refused to stop.
Maddy showed up after some time.
Maddy kicked Lily onto the ground and tossed all the gifts onto her.

Lily tried to fight back, but Maddy was stronger.

In a daze, I saw myself in her.
It was the version of myself that was bullied by David and tried to ask Lily for help.
That time, she had only looked at me coldly.
Hence, I turned around and retrieved a hot towel for Maddy.
“Be careful, don’t dirty your hands.”
