Lily stared at us in disbelief.
She opened her mouth in much difficulty but threw up blood.
She mumbled, “Ben… How could you… treat me like this?”
After Maddy let go, Lily fell limply to the ground.
Her lips were quivering.
“Lily, you’re just getting a taste of your own medicine,” I said as I wiped Maddy’s hand.
“Don’t come and bother me anymore. I’m annoyed by you.”
After I said that, I held Maddy’s hand and walked away.
I had just gotten into my car when Lily stumbled over.
However, she only managed to run a little before she fell onto the ground again.
A few rocks cut her cheek open, and it looked scary.
Tears welled up in her eyes as she sobbed.
“Please… please don’t leave me.”
She looked extremely pathetic compared to her usual arrogant self.
In the past, she had hurt me without a care. She was reaping what she sowed.
I did not say a word. I did not even spare her a glance.
I just instructed Maddy to drive.
Lily crawled painfully, and her palms were bloodied.
However, I did not feel any sympathy for her.
We drove away.
After I completed the divorce proceedings with Maddy, it was already four in the afternoon.
The staff tried to stop us.
“You’re only married for five days. Why are you divorcing?
“Please don’t treat marriage like a joke.”
Before I could say anything, Maddy said, “It’s my problem. He’s a good guy.”
The staff no longer mentioned anything aside from the cooling period.
When I reached home, Lily was no longer there.
She had left a pool of blood.
I found out after that David had sent her to the hospital.
She had disappeared for a long time, and David had been worried. Hence, he traced her and finally found
her.
When he saw her lying in a pool of her own blood, he was stunned and kept calling her name.
He was still holding her hand tightly when she was admitted.
However, the first thing Lily did when she woke up was to find me.
David, who had a bad temper, exploded.
He smashed the soup he made for Lily onto the floor and roared at her.
“Lily! What are you doing?
“I’m standing right in front of you. Why are you still thinking about him?”
David could not understand it.
They were so close, but everything changed the moment I left.
Lily’s distance made him insecure.
He thought he had the upper hand, but in the end, he lost everything.
Lily no longer answered his calls or replied to his text messages.
She treated him like a stranger and cut him off.
He was worried and he chased after her.
However, Lily still ignored him.
“He’s my fiance!
“If not him, am I supposed to think about you?”
Lily roared back at him.
David was stunned.
“What about me?
“Who am I to you?”
Lily had promised him a beautiful future.
In that future, they would get married and have their own children.
They would have their happily ever after.
Lily smiled mockingly.
“So what if you have a good memory? I only fool around with you because you’re good in bed. Don’t cross the line.”
It was then David realized Lily had never cared about him.
David was an arrogant man, and he would not allow such things.
Hence, he did something incredibly stupid.
At night, he snuck into Lily’s ward and stabbed a knife into her heart.
He looked into her widened eyes and fearful expression.
David murmured, “Don’t worry, I’ll be with you.”
Then, he pulled out the knife and stabbed it into his heart.
It was as if they would end up together in the afterlife.
He thought that people would talk about how great their love was instead of how twisted it truly was.
When I got the news, I was overseas.
Maddy told me the incident briefly and asked tentatively, “Are you… upset?”
I laughed.
“I hear the clock tower striking.
“Maddy, if you’re looking for me, just come over.”
The new season had arrived.
I felt it was about time I had a new start in life.
