The Day My Slow Brain Finally Felt Heartbreak Chapter 11

The Day My Slow Brain Finally Felt Heartbreak Chapter 11

A wave of warmth flooded my chest.

Almost instantly, my tensed nerves relaxed completely.

Turning around, I saw David Harrison striding through the door.

He was holding a box of macarons, my absolute favorite.

But right now, his usually gentle face was terrifyingly dark.

Hearing his voice, Joy instinctively snapped her head up.

Her eyes filled with a complex, unbelievable shock.

“You’re… David Harrison?”

David didn’t even spare her a glance.

He strode over to my side, pulling me gently behind him and shielding me completely with his tall frame.

Then, he bent down and clamped his hand around Joy’s arm.

“I’ll say it one more time. Keep your filthy hands off her.”

He shoved her so hard that Joy tumbled back onto her butt, the skin on her palms scraping raw against the

floor.

She stared blankly at how tightly David was holding my hand, her eyes locking onto the identical, custom

wedding rings resting on our fingers.

At that moment, she finally seemed to understand.

She let out a pathetic, miserable laugh.

She pointed at me, her eyes warped with pure jealousy and resentment.

“So… you really are married…”

“No wonder you’re acting so tough, refusing to forgive us…”

“So you’d already found someone else to rely on…”

“Yes,” David answered coldly for me, his voice dripping with an unyielding, absolute possessiveness.

“Valerie and I have been married for two years.”

“She is my wife. And she’s happier now than anyone else in the world.”

“So, get the hell out of her sight, and stop disgusting her with your presence.”

“Happy?” Joy echoed, laughing hysterically as if she had just heard the most ridiculous joke in the world.

She pointed at me, screaming with a completely contorted face.

“How could she ever be happy?!”

“She has a developmental disorder! She’s just an idiot who can’t even react properly to pain!”

“David Harrison, are you insane? Why would you marry a freak?!”

“Nathan slept with me because he couldn’t stand her acting like a lifeless block of wood! You’ll get sick of

her sooner or later, too! You’ll look at her with the exact same disgust Nathan did!”

SLAP-A deafening crack echoed through the shop.

I froze.

David froze, too.

Joy clutched her burning cheek, her eyes wide with utter shock as she gaped at me.

“You… you dared to hit me?”

I slowly pulled my hand back.

My palm was slightly numb from the sheer force of the blow.

I stood with my spine perfectly straight, looking down at her with eyes that carried absolutely zero warmth.

“I won’t allow you to talk about me that way.”

“I used to have a developmental delay, but I was never a dummy.”

“And my condition was cured a long time ago. My condition has long since recovered. I’m far more normal

than you are-and far more dignified than a woman who only knows how to steal someone else’s boyfriend.”

This was the very first time in my life I had ever struck someone.

In the past, because of my slow reactions, I would only swallow the humiliation silently whenever people

bullied me.

But things were different now.

I finally possessed the ability to defend myself, and the raw courage to fight back.
