The Day My Slow Brain Finally Felt Heartbreak Chapter 10
She stumbled back a step, clamping a hand over her mouth as she burst into a violent, breathless wail.
“I’m sorry… Valerie, I’m so sorry…”
“I was wrong! I really know I was wrong!”
“For the past three years, not a single day has passed without regret! I’ve been living in absolute hell!”
“I lost my baby, and my reputation is ruined, I have absolutely nothing left… I failed you!”
“The person you failed isn’t me.”
Looking at her pathetic state, I didn’t feel a single shred of sympathy.
“The person you failed is yourself.”
“You’re the one who personally destroyed over a decade of friendship, and you’re the one who chose to crawl
into your best friend’s boyfriend’s bed.”
“Your current misery is nothing more than the exact karma you deserve. It has absolutely nothing to do with
me.”
“No! That’s not true!”
Joy shook her head frantically, her eyes wide.
“It was Nathan! He was the one who seduced me first!”
“He told me he had been sick of your delay for a long time! He said being with you was exhausting, like living
with someone mentally slow!”
“He said he liked girls who were lively and vibrant like me!”
“I just lost my mind for a second and succumbed… Valerie, please forgive me, okay? Can’t we just go back to
the way we were?”
I couldn’t help but let out a cold laugh.
“Joy, even now, you’re still deflecting the blame onto someone else.”
“If you hadn’t been completely willing, who could have stripped your clothes off and forced you?”
“Besides, you know exactly what kind of pathetic wreck Nathan is right now. You’ve spent the last three years hurting each other over and over again. Aren’t you tired yet?”
At the mention of Nathan’s name, Joy’s eyes instantly filled with pure, unadulterated venom.
“It was him! He’s the one who ruined me!”
“If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have lost my child, and I wouldn’t have turned into this pathetic, barely human
anymore!”
“What right does he have to live a better life than me? What right does he have to come looking for you?!”
Suddenly, she lost her mind completely and lunged forward.
She clamped her hands around my arm, her nails digging deep enough to pierce my skin.
She stared at me with frantic desperation.
“Valerie, don’t you dare forgive him! Absolutely do not forgive him!”
“He doesn’t love you at all! He’s only doing this out of guilt! He just can’t handle the weight of his own
conscience!”
“If you forgive him, he’ll only destroy you again down the line!”
I furrowed my brows, violently trying to rip my arm out of her grip.
“I won’t forgive him, and I won’t forgive you either. Let go of me!”
“No! I’m not leaving!”
With a heavy thud, Joy dropped straight onto her knees, collapsing onto the floor.
She wrapped her arms tightly around my legs, sobbing as if her lungs were going to rupture.
“Valerie, I’m begging you! Just forgive me!”
“I really can’t survive without you! For the past three years, everyone has treated me like a complete joke, calling me a home-wrecking bitch who got exactly what she deserved!”
“I’m being driven completely insane! Just view me as a pathetic stray and give me a lifeline, please?”
Her suffocating desperation was making me entirely nauseous.
Just as I prepared to violently kick her away.
Suddenly, a deep, chillingly cold voice sliced through the air.
“Take your hands off her.”
