He Drugged Me For Her Future Chapter 06
Mrs. Patterson was clearly not a morning person.Â
She slammed the door shut.Â
The hallway went quiet.Â
Tyler stood there, still holding the breakfast thatÂ
was slowly getting cold.Â
She left?Â
She sold the apartment?Â
It felt like someone had punched him in the head.Â
He shook his head automatically, almost laughing.Â
No way, Emma could not have left.Â
Her parents were gone, and he was the onlyÂ
person she had in the world. There was no wayÂ
she would leave alone.Â
His heart started racing.Â
Then he remembered the way she had looked atÂ
him outside the principal’s office.Â
Calm. No questions. No tears. Not even disappointment, like she had completely let go.Â
Something inside him cracked, and a cold rushÂ
flooded through, he started shaking.Â
Tyler braced himself against the wall. With a trembling hand, he pulled out his phone and frantically dialed Emma’s number.Â
Busy signal. Again. Still no answer.Â
So he called the number on the realtor sign andÂ
got into the apartment as a potential buyer.Â
He walked slowly through every room.Â
And slowly, the truth sank in.Â
Emma Watson, the girl he thought would neverÂ
leave him, was really gone.Â
His phone buzzed.Â
He answered instantly.Â
But the name on the screen was not the one heÂ
had hoped for, it was Madison.Â
“Tyler, where are you?”Â
Her voice was practically bubbling withÂ
excitement.Â
“I went to school today to see everyone off for the SATS, and I found out Emma Watson didn’t evenÂ
show up. The whole class knows. I think sheÂ
moved out of state.”Â
She paused for a second, and when she spokeÂ
again, she sounded like she was smiling.Â
“Tyler, now she is finally not clinging to you. WeÂ
can finally be together out in the open.”Â
“Stop.” Tyler cut her off. His voice was hoarse andÂ
barely recognizable.Â
Madison noticed something was off. “Tyler, areÂ
you crying? Didn’t you always say Emma WatsonÂ
could not live without you?”Â
“Well look at her. She is doing just fine. She left without even looking back. What are you worried about? You said you only pitied her, right? Isn’t thisÂ
a good thing?”Â
His knuckles were white around the phone.Â
He wanted to argue back, but when he opened hisÂ
mouth, nothing came out.Â
She was right. Hadn’t he always thought of EmmaÂ
as a burden?Â
Hadn’t he said he only took care of her because he felt sorry for her?Â
Now that she left on her own, he should beÂ
relieved.Â
So why did it feel like someone had ripped a holeÂ
in his chest?Â
“Say something.” Madison’s voice had more hurt in it now. “Tyler, you are not regretting this, are you?”Â
Tyler didn’t answer, because he didn’t know theÂ
answer himself.Â
Tyler bought the apartment. Then he lay down onÂ
Emma’s small bed.Â
He closed his eyes, and all he could see was herÂ
face.Â
He remembered so many things.Â
He remembered her running after him with her hairÂ
in two little pigtails, her voice tiny andÂ
high–pitched, yelling, “Tyler, wait for me.”Â
He remembered the day the car ran over his handsÂ
when he was ten, the day he saved her. She screamed and cried, holding his hands and asking,Â
“Does it hurt, Tyler? Does it hurt?”Â
He remembered the months after her parentsÂ
died, nightmares every night. She would call himÂ
crying, and he would stay on the phone with herÂ
until she fell asleep, sometimes all night.Â
Back then, having her need him had felt like a gift.Â
When did that change?
