He Drugged Me For Her Future Chapter 05
Tyler stumbled backward, almost dropping theÂ
box.Â
How had she found out about the ring?Â
He called me immediately. But all he heard was a busy tone.Â
He knew, I had blocked him.Â
Angry now, he called Madison instead. “Emma knows about the ring. Didn’t I tell you not to say anything?”Â
Madison was quiet for a few seconds, then herÂ
voice came out tearful. “It was not me.”Â
“If it was not you, how would she know the ringÂ
was fake?” His voice was low now.Â
“How should I know? Maybe she got it appraisedÂ
herself. Why are you blaming me right away?”Â
Madison sounded more hurt by the second.Â
“Tyler, if you care about her feelings that much,Â
then go find her. Why are you still with me?”Â
He heard her crying on the other end. Tyler wentÂ
quiet.Â
He had made it clear, hadn’t he? He lovedÂ
Madison. He only pitied me.Â
Then why did he feel like his heart was breakingÂ
when he couldn’t get through?Â
Something felt wrong. A sense of impending loss.Â
hung over him.Â
He pushed the feeling down and tried to comfortÂ
Madison halfheartedly. “That is not what I meant.”Â
The next morning, Tyler was one of the first peopleÂ
in the classroom.Â
But when everyone else had arrived, I was still notÂ
there.Â
And my phone was still going straight toÂ
voicemail.Â
He went to my apartment on Maple Street andÂ
knocked for a long time, but no one answered.Â
Now he was getting annoyed.Â
Over the years, he had always treated me likeÂ
someone precious.Â
Every time we argued, no matter who was right, heÂ
was always the one to apologize first.Â
This time, he decided he was not going to chaseÂ
- me.Â
He stopped obsessively calling me and agreed toÂ
Madison’s suggestion to go on a trip.Â
After all, I was so dependent on him.Â
Since we were kids, all my weakness, all my tearsÂ
had been just for him.Â
After my parents died, he was practically the onlyÂ
person I had left in the world.Â
He thought I only knew about the ring, not aboutÂ
the early admission scheme.Â
He already had his excuse ready.Â
He would say he gave me the fake ring because heÂ
was afraid I would lose the real one.Â
Once I calmed down, he was sure I would take himÂ
off my block list soon enough.Â
Might as well enjoy some time without thatÂ
shadow following him around.Â
He and Madison went to the beach.Â
The sun was beautiful, and the sand was white.Â
Madison wore pretty dresses and made him take pictures of her, playfully nagged him to carry her bag. Everything was fine.Â
But he kept getting distracted for no reason.Â
When they ate, he would automatically avoid the spicy dishes.Â
Then he would remember, the person who couldÂ
not handle spice was not there.Â
When they walked, he would habitually move toÂ
the side closer to the road.Â
Then he would realize, the girl who never watched where she was going, who always neededÂ
someone to protect her, was not there.Â
The day the trip ended was the morning of theÂ
SATS. And I still hadn’t reached out to him.Â
Tyler finally swallowed his pride.Â
He got up early, made a nice breakfast, and waited outside my building.Â
After a while, he went upstairs, breakfast in hand,Â
and knocked. “Emma, wake up. I will drive you toÂ
the testing center.”Â
“No matter what happened between us, you needÂ
to do well today. We are going to KingstonÂ
together.”Â
No answer.Â
He knocked again, louder this time. “Emma? ComeÂ
on, you are going to be late.”Â
Still nothing.Â
Tyler frowned and knocked harder.Â
The banging echoed through the hallway.Â
The door next to mine suddenly swung open. Mrs. Patterson, an older woman with gray hair, stuck her head out, looking annoyed.Â
“Stop knocking! The girl left already, moved out of state. The apartment’s been listed with a realtor for days. Who are you looking for?”Â
Tyler’s hand stopped midair. “What did you say?”Â
“I said she left. Do you not understand English?”
