He Drugged Me For Her Future Chapter 04
I was just about to answer when Madison’s voice came from behind me.
“She went to tattle on me for smoking on the rooftop terrace the day before yesterday.”
The moment Madison appeared, Tyler reached out automatically to steady her.
“You fell so badly, why are you running around again?”
Then he remembered I was there and let go awkwardly.
I blinked a few times.
It took me a moment to remember. During lunch the day before yesterday, I had gone up to the rooftop terrace to memorize notes and accidentally seen Madison smoking.
Madison rolled her eyes at me, her voice aggressive and sharp. “You promised you wouldn’t tell, and then you went back on your word?”
“I got stuck writing a three-thousand-word essay because of you.”
“So I accidentally hit you with a volleyball, was that really necessary?”
She shoved the disciplinary notice in my face.
Principal Davis was famously strict and treated everyone the same.
So even students with early admission to Kingston were punished if they were caught smoking on campus.
“Don’t think I don’t know what you are doing,” Madison said, getting more worked up. “You have been mad at me for stealing your early admission spot, haven’t you?”
I shook my head quickly, my voice barely audible. “No.”
I looked over at Tyler unintentionally. But all I saw was him stepping in front of Madison without any hesitation.
And when he looked at me, there was open disappointment in his eyes. “Emma, how could you do something like this?”
His brow was tightly furrowed, his voice heavy with disapproval.
“What happened with early admission is in the past. What’s the point of doing something like this? Getting Madison in trouble is not going to bring your spot back.”
“I thought you had moved on. I didn’t expect you to get back at her like this. Honestly, it is kind of pathetic.”
I stood there frozen. In that moment, everything became crystal clear.
In Tyler’s mind, whether I actually did it didn’t matter. What mattered was what Madison said.
Because he only pitied me. And Madison was the one he loved.
I didn’t want to waste another word, so I turned and walked away.
Tyler seemed to realize something. He stepped forward and grabbed my arm, his voice softening. “Emma, that is not what I meant.”
“I just… I don’t want you to get distracted because you are still upset about losing early admission. Instead of being jealous of Madison, why don’t you just focus on studying so you can get into Kingston on your own?”
I pulled my arm free and kept walking.
Jealous?
I was not jealous.
I had just finally seen things clearly.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Madison run off, her face pale.
Tyler hesitated for a second, then rushed out, “Oh, I just remembered. My chemistry teacher needs me to help with an experiment today. I have to go.”
No surprise there, he had chosen Madison again.
He didn’t know that if he had stayed just a moment longer, he might have found out about my plans to move out of state.
Would he have tried to stop me? He probably would have laughed.
I gripped the recommendation letter in my hand and answered Aunt Susan’s call.
“Aunt Susan, the flight information is right. I am leaving tonight.”
I took one last look at Tyler’s back as he ran toward Madison, then I let out a quiet laugh.
Tyler, you got exactly what you wanted.
We will be on opposite sides of the country, and won’t see each other again.
……
Madison’s moods shifted quickly.
After he calmed her down, Tyler suddenly remembered the way I had looked at him today. A flicker of unease crept into his chest.
Right about then, a package arrived at his front door from the same-day courier service I had called from the airport.
Inside the small box lay the discolored fake ring from the mall kiosk.
Beside it sat a small note.
[I don’t want a fake ring, and I don’t want fake love either.]
