He Drugged Me For Her Future Chapter 03
My aunt got all the paperwork ready within a day through her contacts.
The next day, I came to school for the last time. I needed the principal to write my college recommendation letter.
When I passed the corner where Tyler and Madison had been kissing yesterday, I heard those familiar voices again.
I told myself to keep walking. Don’t embarrass yourself again like you did yesterday.
But my feet slowed down anyway.
So I heard Madison whining playfully to Tyle, “Tyler, let me eat this breakfast. I still have bread in my bag. That fragile little princess won’t starve.”
I didn’t catch Tyler’s answer, but I found out soon enough.
Ten minutes later, the breakfast he put on my desk was not the usual beautifully arranged meal in a nice bento style box.
Just two dry slices of wheat bread, not even in a Ziploc bag.
“Emma, I overslept this morning. Forgot to prepare anything. Just make do with this.”
He smiled. His tone was casual.
I smiled too. I didn’t confront him.
He had lied to me so many times.
About the ring. About early admission. About love.
This lie was the least important one.
For once, I didn’t sit down and bury myself in practice problems the moment I reached my seat.
Jessica, who sits next to me, gave me a confused look. “Emma, why are you so relaxed today? Not drilling problems like a maniac?”
Tyler’s footsteps faltered for a moment.
He was probably wondering about my strange behavior too.
But what he didn’t know was that I was not planning to take the SATs anymore.
I was about to say, “I’m moving out of state,” when Jessica jumped in.
“It is good that you are taking a break. Don’t push yourself so hard like before. You are so smart. You will get in.”
Everyone knew about my promise with Tyler. Kingston together.
After losing the early admission spot, I had turned myself into a machine just to catch up to him. Just to keep that promise alive.
I was asleep at 2:00 a.m. and back up at 5:00 a.m. to memorize vocabulary.
When my eyelids were too heavy to keep open, I would jab my thigh with the straightened point of a paperclip.
Once, and if that wasn’t enough, twice. Until the pain drowned out the exhaustion.
I didn’t mind the suffering. Because I thought Tyler was waiting for me in the future we had imagined together.
But the truth was, he had already found someone else.
Principal Davis was in a meeting, so I sat through a few classes first.
First period was gym. For once, no teacher had taken it over for extra instruction.
Everyone ran excitedly toward the school gymnasium.
I followed along, wanting to enjoy these last moments with my classmates.
But not long after the ball came to me, a volleyball slammed into the back of my head from an angle.
The force was hard enough to make everything go black for a second.
I turned and saw Madison. She hadn’t quite wiped the smirk off her face yet. There was something cold in her eyes.
She had done it on purpose.
My body, wrecked from all those nights studying, finally gave out.
My legs went weak, and I started falling straight down.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Tyler running toward me.
He was sprinting fast, the way he always did when I got hurt.
For a moment, I let myself breathe a little easier.
At least he still cared enough to worry.
But when I finally gathered myself in Jessica’s arms and struggled upright, I realized.
Some of the students gathered around me, Tyler wasn’t among them. He was not there.
Jessica hesitated, biting her lip, and finally said quietly, “After Madison hit you, she came running over like she was going to apologize. But then she tripped and fell pretty hard. I think she hurt her leg.”
“Tyler said. Her injury was more serious. He took her to the nurse’s office.”
Her voice trailed off with every word. She looked confused too.
The guy who always put me first. How could he leave me lying on the ground to help the girl who had just knocked me down?
But I knew why.
He put me first before because he pitied me. Madison was the one he truly cared about.
Strangely, I didn’t feel much sadness. I no longer wanted things that weren’t mine.
I had something more important to do.
Principal Davis should be getting out of his meeting soon.
Once I was sure I could stand, I left the gymnasium and walked toward the principal’s office.
After I explained why I was there, Principal Davis looked surprised.
“Out of state? At this point?”
“You and that Tyler. Wasn’t the plan for you both to go to Kingston together? The whole school knows.”
I smiled and didn’t explain.
Just handed him the recommendation letter and said softly, “Please sign it for me.”
Principal Davis didn’t ask any more questions. He picked up his pen and signed.
I walked out of the office holding the letter.
When I looked up, Tyler was standing at the stairwell. “Emma, I have been looking everywhere for you. Are you okay?”
He looked at the envelope in my hand, then at my face. His brow furrowed slightly.
“What were you doing in the principal’s office?”
