Weight Gain Murder Chapter 03
Author: Fido
On the way home, I felt my breathing growing more rapid. My whole body swelled like rising dough, and I felt like my fat cells were multiplying, crowding my organs and filling my limbs.
I had entered the same period of rapid weight gain as in my previous life. Unless I found a solution, the disease would destroy my body, and I would die in agony.
When I got home, Mom looked deeply disappointed, her eyes wet with tears.
Jenny frowned. “The coach called Mom and said you were sneaking out to eat snacks at the camp. You never learn! When you reach five hundred pounds, Mom will have to help you bathe and use the bathroom every day. Do you really want to trap her at your side forever?”
Mom glared at Jenny and told her to stop. Then, she turned to me and pleaded. “Shannon, if you still can’t control your eating, you’ll die! Your father died from obesity. I don’t want to lose you, too!”
She wept, and a sense of helplessness washed over me. I did not know how to make them believe I had not been sneaking out to eat or eating junk food secretly. I did not want her to worry, and I did not want to die.
Desperate for answers, I posted my story online and asked for help. Most people mocked me or told me to stop lying. Everyone insisted I must be eating in secret.
Only one reply caught my attention: [Have you thought about your sister having something to do with this? Why is she losing weight while you keep gaining it?]
My thoughts suddenly became clear.
That was right.
Jenny and I had always eaten the same meals, and I exercised even harder than she did. Why was she the one losing weight? What had she done without telling me?
I began watching her in secret. Her routine never changed. Other than eating and using the bathroom, she stayed in her room all day and never went out with friends.
There was just one difference between us. My showers took no more than fifteen minutes. Jenny stayed in the bathroom for two full hours every night. I had always assumed she just liked taking long showers. Now, I wondered whether she was hiding something.
That evening, I waited until she finished before going into the bathroom.
Nothing seemed unusual. Then, I noticed a small, oddly shaped bar of soap tucked into a corner. I picked it up. It was still slippery, so Jenny must have just used it. When I held it to my nose, I recognized the scent. It was the same one that always clung to Jenny’s skin.
Was this how she had lost weight?
I tried to contain my excitement as I turned on the shower and rinsed off. Then, I rubbed the soap over every inch of my skin. Before long, my skin had become an odd shade of pink. I could even feel the fat cells beneath it throbbing.
That was how I stayed in the shower for two hours, too.
By the time I came out, my mom was asleep, but the light in Jenny’s room was still on. Through the crack in her door, I saw her holding a green medicine bottle. She took out a pill and swallowed it.
I became suspicious again. What was that? I went back to my room and waited until I heard faint snoring from hers.
Then, I quietly opened her door, crossed to her desk in the moonlight, and picked up the bottle. It had no label.
I opened the bottle and reached for a pill.
Suddenly, a chill ran down my spine. “What are you doing?!”
I got goosebumps all over when a voice suddenly came from behind me.
