Too Late, My Regretful Don Chapter 05
A stabbing pain shot through my abdomen. I curled up on the floor.
She grabbed a candlestick and smashed it into my belly, her face twisted with rage.
“You think you can trap him with a baby? Let’s see if Renato still wants you when you pop out some freak!”
I struggled and screamed. “No! This is Renato’s only child! If he finds out you…”
She cut me off with a shriek.
“Bitch! Are you threatening me?”
Her high heel stomped on my face. She kicked my belly.
Warm liquid gushed from between my legs, soaking my dress, staining the carpet red.
Rosa grinned, hideously.
“In Renato’s heart, you and that little bastard in your belly don’t even add up to one of my fingers. Get pregnant again, and I’ll do it again.”
While I was unconscious, Rosa kept spreading rumors. She said I was a homewrecker, accused me of embezzling millions from the hospital, claimed I’d deliberately cut a patient’s artery.
The online hate got even worse.
People threw paint at me. Slapped me. Strangers on the street asked how much I charged per night.
I fell apart.
I was like a walking corpse, trapped in hell.
But Renato just sighed and said,
“Rosa’s young. She’s immature. She was just worried the baby would take all your attention. You need to be understanding.”
“I’ve already punished her. She knows she messed up. She promised that from now on…”
“How did you punish her?” I asked, my eyes bloodshot.
“Did you punish her for drugging you and climbing on top of you? Or for stealing my research and handing it over to her?”
“Enough!”
Renato slapped me. His eyes were red.
“She would never do something like that. Giulia, I’m not going to let you trash her like that.”
“Guards! Lock the Donna in the isolation room so she can think about what she’s done.”
I trembled. Despair washed over me. “Renato, have you forgotten? I’m scared of that…”
Ever since I was a child, I’d been terrified of small, dark spaces.
Because I was kidnapped as a kid and locked in a basement. I almost died.
He knew about her fear. He’d installed lights everywhere in the villa, except for the isolation room.
Renato’s voice was cold. “Of course I remember.”
“That’s the point. This way, you’ll remember the lesson and stop talking nonsense.”
That was the first time I was in so much pain I tried to kill myself. After they revived me, I lost it. I posted thread after thread exposing Rosa. I carved humiliating words into her face with a scalpel. I stopped at nothing to get revenge.
But Rosa turned it all around on me.
She pretended to be gang-raped by a group of homeless men, then kidnapped, then hit by a car. She claimed I was trying to kill her to settle the score.
Renato lost his mind. His eyes red, he demanded,
“How much longer are you going to drag this out over a baby that didn’t even make it?”
“Rosa’s young. She didn’t mean any harm! She’s lost her innocence and her reputation because of you. Isn’t that enough? Do you have to completely destroy her before you’re satisfied?”
My heart twisted with pain. I laughed through my tears.
Renato, I’m the one being destroyed here. So why can’t you see it?
“Renato… let’s get a divorce.”
Hearing that, he said coldly, “You have no job. Your mother disowned you. Without me, you’ll be out on the streets begging.”
“Giulia.”
“If you won’t see reason, then take some time to cool off.”
To punish me, he locked me in the Valenti family’s harshest reformatory.
But Rosa faked my ashes and my death certificate.
She threw me in a dungeon and tortured me for five whole years.
Meanwhile, she lived a glamorous life. She married Renato. Became the spoiled Donna.
Beep!
A sharp, blaring horn.
It pulled me back from the memories. I saw a girl lying in a pool of blood, her face pale. She wasn’t breathing.
My pupils trembled. I stood frozen.
Because that face… was mine.
