The Wife Who Rode Her Black Panther Husband Daily Didn’t Know His Child Was A Leopard Chapter 09
We were only a few dozen miles from Rabbit
Shifter Territory.
I pulled into a highway rest stop to refuel and grab
food for the kids.
I stepped away for the bathroom; only to spot
several Black Panther Shifters lingering nearby.
This close to Rabbit territory, that many Panthers
didn’t make sense.
Only one explanation.
Kael had tracked me down with his clan.
I forgot the bathroom entirely.
I ran back to the table and told the kids we had to
- go.
But Zara was gone.
“Mia, where’s your sister?”
Mia swallowed a fry and pointed to a capsule toy
machine. “She went for a surprise toy… wait, she’s
not there.”
I picked up Mia, ready to search- but she was
burning up.
“Mommy, I’m so hot. It feels like I’m boiling in a
pot.”
She scratched weakly at her lower back.
No.
Mia was shifting for the first time. I had to get her
to a hospital now.
I panicked, looking everywhere. No Zara.
My phone buzzed.
A photo from Kael:
[Zara’s with me. Don’t worry.]
[Stay there. I’m coming for you and Mia…]
I didn’t finish reading.
Knowing Zara was safe calmed me.
I grabbed Mia and bolted outside.
Several tall Panther Shifters blocked my way. “Clan
Alpha’s wife, the Alpha said you can’t go anywhere.
He took the eldest to buy toys.”
“Move!”
They didn’t dare touch me. They couldn’t stop me.
I shoved past them hard.
I drove Mia to the hospital.
She recovered quickly, no real danger.
But I stared at the paperwork in shock. “Doctor,
you must’ve made a mistake.”
“My daughter can’t be a Black Panther. She’s a
Leop-”
I stopped.
Mia kicked the blanket, and the tip of a black
panther tail peeked out.
Something was very, very wrong.
I used Zara’s leftover fur from the car and had a
DNA paternity test done on both girls.
You’ll never guess the result.
The two girls had different fathers.
I’d been set up by both of them..
Rabbit Shifters naturally had a double uterus.
The doctor explained I’d conceived both kids in
separate wombs, just days apart.
The timings were so close they were born
together, and I’d assumed they were twins.
They were too little for their features to stand out.
And their fathers looked nearly identical.
I’d never questioned it.
I feared Kael would take his anger over Zara out
on my kids.
I rushed to find Kael with Mia, hoping he’d spare
us because at least one child was his.
I reached Kael’s office only to learn he was at the
Shifter Training Grounds.
I waited there with Mia.
I was about to sit down when I looked up and saw
Jax walking toward me.
He looked roughed up, fresh cuts on his face–hot
in a messy, brawling way.
My heart skipped.
I quickly hid Mia behind the couch; she’d been
chasing her own black panther tail in circles.
Trapped between two dangers. I was doomed.
I still hadn’t fixed things with Kael.
If Jax found out Mia wasn’t his… and after I’d
tricked him and left him in the mud…
He’d lose it and take it out on the kids.
Jax’s face lit up when he saw me.
He hurried over, moving less like a cat and more
like an excited dog.
He glanced at the Clan Alpha’s office behind me,
and his expression fell.
“You… came back for my brother?”
I stepped forward, forcing a casual tone. “Uh…
yeah.”
Right then, Kael walked in.
His gaze turned dark and dangerous.
He looked back and forth between me and Jax.
I knew that look.
He thought I’d come to see Jax.
“It’s not what you think!”
Kael ignored me.
He stepped forward fast and kicked Jax hard with a sweeping leg, sending him crashing to the floor.
His golden eyes were ice–cold. He stared down at Jax.
Now I knew where Jax’s injuries came from.
“Useless. She ran away with you, and you still lost her.”
“You almost got Zara taken.”
Jax usually talked back to Kael, refused to back down.
But this time, he took the blame quietly.
Other shifter guards dragged Jax away without being told.
I had enough to worry about.
I turned to get Mia to show Kael she was his biological daughter- but she was gone.
I searched everywhere and found her in the break
room, cheeks stuffed full of snacks.
Her eyes lit up when she saw me. She mumbled
incoherently.
I picked her up and ran to Kael’s office to prove it.
I only noticed then that Mia had tucked her tail
away again.
“Baby, show Daddy your shift.”
“Kael, look- Mia’s yours. She’s a Black Panther
too.”
I held her out to him.
She shifted willingly, small and soft in my arms.
Kael looked down.
His fists clenched slowly. His eyes turned red, brimming with hopelessness.
He lifted his gaze to me, voice cracking, eyes wet.
“Wife. You don’t have to lie to me. I’ll take it.”
I froze.
What?
I looked down.
My daughter had shifted into a tiny leopard.
