The Wasted Ten Years Chapter 05
(Third-Person POV)
Shannon watched Jude’s retreating figure.
Then, she looked down at the divorce agreement in her hand and ran a hand through her hair in frustration.
She should have been happy.
After all, she had become someone she could no longer recognize, and that was what finally made Jude leave her.
She should have been happy.
Yet deep down, she felt like something was missing.
Shannon stuffed the divorce agreement into a drawer, as if hiding it away would make it disappear.
Micah called her again.
“Shay, have you taken care of the issue with my university? I’m sorry for troubling you again. If Mr. Stafford doesn’t want a divorce, I don’t need an official status.
“Being able to stay by your side is enough for me.”
A faint smile appeared on Shannon’s face.
At first, being with Micah had only been a fleeting moment of temptation.
He was young and full of stamina, and in the beginning, she had only intended to have some fun.
However, before she knew it, things had spiraled beyond her control.
She could not remember when it started, but every time she looked at Jude, she found herself thinking of Micah instead.
Jude took everything too seriously. Everything in his life was always organized and orderly, and over time, Shannon began to find it dull.
Perhaps age had truly caught up with him. Jude’s health had been declining, and his appearance had aged rapidly as well.
However, Micah was just like Jude had been when he was young.
She wanted a divorce, so she could give Micah a home.
“Everything with the university has been taken care of, and he signed the divorce agreement.”
The moment Micah heard that Jude had signed the agreement, he shot a smug look at his friends.
“Thanks, Shay.”
After thanking Shannon, he ended the call.
His friends immediately erupted in excitement.
“Not bad, Micah. I can’t believe you managed to win over the CEO of Jervis Group so quickly. Looks like it’s your turn to rise to the top now.”
“With that kind of money, you can live without worries for the rest of your life!”
Micah looked pleased with himself.
“Her ex-husband is all looks and no substance. I heard he’s in poor health too, so I’m the only one who can satisfy her.”
“Micah, you two are eight years apart. Are you really going to stay with someone like her forever?”
His friend’s words made Micah realize something.
He had planned every single encounter with Shannon from the beginning and had ever looked into her preferences beforehand.
If he had never met Shannon, he would probably still be out there working odd jobs.
“She has already divorced that useless ex-husband of hers. I’m willing to stay by her side for the rest of my life.”
Age had never been the issue.
As long as she had money, he was more than willing to be the man who lived off her.
Shannon felt suffocated staying at home.
Without Jude, the house felt unbearably stifling, so she went to Micah’s place.
The moment she stepped inside, he wrapped his arms around her waist and buried his face against her neck like an affectionate
puppy.
“Shay, I missed you.”
Shannon used to enjoy seeing Micah cling to her and act playfully spoiled because it gave her a sense of satisfaction.
This time, she found herself distracted.
Even with her eyes closed, all she could see was Jude’s retreating figure.
