The Principessa Bought a Genius Boyfriend Chapter 13

The Principessa Bought a Genius Boyfriend Chapter 13

Vincent’s POV

In that split second, I felt like a total idiot.

What was I even hoping for?

Hoping the moonlight would take pity on this ant

like me?

No. I was just a plaything, after all.

I left, locked myself away for two days, furious.

Then I realized. I couldn’t live without Isabella.

If I had to be a plaything, so be it. I’d just be better at it than any other plaything.

I went to find Isabella, and that was when I found

out-

She was gone.

Gone completely…

I quit my job, followed random leads people gave

me, and trekked through unfamiliar cities

searching for any trace of her.

I wandered in circles, but she was always one step

ahead of me. She didn’t leave me a single thing to

go on.

But I heard that her family’s company went

bankrupt.

Did she leave me because I had no money,

couldn’t help her pay off her family’s debts?

I hated myself for the first time in my life.

When my savings ran out, I had to go back to New

York, crash at a friend’s place, and start building

the system from scratch.

As I built up more connections, all the details

about the Moretti family started coming to light.

I slowly sobered up and realized one thing.

Bankruptcy wasn’t just a word.

Isabella’s ivory tower collapsed.

She fell into this harsh, strange world. How was

she doing now?

See? I was so torn.

One side of me was angry, the other side was just

worried sick about her.

I still couldn’t find Isabella.

To avoid creditors, the whole family had changed.

their names and started over somewhere else.

I bought so many of the things Isabella used to

love.

The hand cream she used, the sweetsmelling

kind, I bought the whole set.

And bags, skincareeverything. If she came back,

she could just use them right away.

The fourth year after Isabella disappeared, I finally

saw her again.

That night, I intentionally stayed last, waited for

her to get off work, and followed her out of the

building.

The elevator went down from the twentieth floor

to the first floor.

It only took a few minutes.

But it felt longer than all the twentysomething

years of my life put together.

Why did she pretend she didn’t know me?

Why did she keep trying to run away?

Did she really not want to see me that bad?

I called out to her, even risked her hating me for it.

She lifted her hat brim, and I finally saw her whole face clearly.

She’d gotten so thin, so much thinner. The spark

was gone from her eyes that she’d had back in the day.

When she talked to Aurora, I just stared at her

face. I almost forgot to breathe.

What shocked me the most was that she was

working multiple jobs.

Just like I did back then.

There were calluses on her hands now.

I almost cried.

I never cried even when my life was falling apart

back in the day. But watching calluses on

Isabella’s hands? I just wanted to cry so bad.

Isabella said she had a boyfriend.

I didn’t believe her.

Not until that nogood guy stood in front of me.

I wanted to punch him.

I’d always been a pretty standup guy my whole.

life.

For the first time, I wanted to do something a little dirty for myself.

I was gonna take Isabella back.

I wasn’t poor anymore. I could give her a better

life.

Those old debts? Nothing I couldn’t handle.

I was so sure of how I felt now.

I loved Isabellaloved the pure girl she used to be,

and loved the strong woman she was now.

In some ways, we were exactly the same.

The new year came.

Isabella asked me what I thought the most

resilient thing in the world was.

I said, Moonlight.”

She looked confused, and stared out the window.

She didn’t know I was staring at her.

I used to think the moonlight had fallen from the sky.

But I watched her fall down and get back up again.

Life couldn’t break her.

Why moonlight? She kept staring all sillylike out the window.

Because even when you’re trapped in the worst

place, moonlight never falls.”

I kissed her forehead.

I will always love the moonlight.
