The Principessa Bought a Genius Boyfriend Chapter 11
Vincent picked up an orange and began cutting itÂ
slowly.Â
It suddenly hit me–the day we reunited, he’dÂ
asked me to cut a fruit platter.Â
“What did you mean by what you said?”Â
“You could snap at me, why can’t I? I thought you got bored and dumped me, then disappeared for four whole years, like you were purposely avoidingÂ
me… Can’t I even be mad?”Â
That was fair, yeah.Â
“But Aurora said you hated me.”Â
“I’m sorry. That was my fault. I didn’t call her outÂ
on it sooner.”Â
Vincent finished slicing the last piece of orange.Â
He sighed softly.Â
“After all… I thought you really… didn’t want meÂ
anymore.”Â
Snow fell outside the window.Â
It made the inside of the house feel all the moreÂ
dry and warm.Â
In this moment, I finally knew for certain.Â
In the river of time, that boy had walked all the wayÂ
to me.Â
The week of homecoming, Vincent and I both.Â
went back to campus.Â
He was the alumni representative, and he had toÂ
give a speech there.Â
The school was still the same, but waves of freshÂ
young faces had come and gone.Â
There were always people staying young.Â
There were always people stepping into theirÂ
prime, chasing their dreams.Â
When I pulled my phone out of my pocket, an old student ID slipped out and fell to the ground.Â
A student picked it up for me, glanced at the name, then looked up at me, surprised. “You’reÂ
Isabella?”Â
“You know me?”Â
“I interned at Vincent’s company. You’re pretty famous over there.”Â
“Really?”Â
I’d only been to Vincent’s company once. When I was sitting at the front desk waiting for him, the receptionist had the exact same reaction after writing down my name-“You’re Isabella?”Â
I didn’t think much of it back then. I never knewÂ
why.Â
The student said,”The whole people search system the company uses has a core algorithm that Vincent wrote himself in the early days. HeÂ
left a note on it-”Â
He paused, like he was recalling the exact words.Â
“If you ever meet Isabella, tell her for me that I loveÂ
her.”Â
“Everyone who’s ever worked with this code hasÂ
seen that line.”Â
I froze for a long time.Â
He smiled. “It’s so nice. He finally found you.”Â
After the speech, Vincent and I walked slowlyÂ
along our old routes from back in the day.Â
We ended up in front of the library.Â
Vincent stared at the big tree to the left. “This isÂ
where you confessed to me, back then.”Â
“Yeah, I remember. I was so bold back then.”Â
He stared blankly at the spot, his memoriesÂ
drifting far, far away.Â
“Vincent, were you happy in college?”Â
He’d struggled, been slandered, and hit rockÂ
bottom.Â
I thought he’d say no.Â
But Vincent said, “I was very happy.Â
“As long as you were with me, even pain turnedÂ
into happiness.”Â
He turned around, just like he did all those yearsÂ
ago, and looked down at me.Â
“Isabella, it’s my turn to say it now.Â
“My ninth year of loving you is almost here. GiveÂ
me a chance, okay?”Â
It started snowing again.Â
Snowflakes landed on his hair.Â
I smiled. “Happy new year, and please take care ofÂ
me from now on.”Â
Happy new year, my boy.Â
Happy new year, my youth.Â
Even if we had our regrets, we would always beÂ
our best selves.
