The Pet My Family Gave Me Was the Secret Behind Her Miracle Recovery Chapter 05

A moment later, Mom’s phone rang twice.

She hurriedly scooped up Roo and rushed out of the room.

My expression immediately turned cold.

Roo was injured this badly.

That meant Serena was probably in critical condition.

But Serena didn’t have a compatible donor.

Which meant they had only one option left.

They had to make Roo kill me before Serena died.

Mom secretly pressed several blood–soaked sigil papers infused with ink and herbs against Roo’s wounds.

Right before my eyes, the wounds began closing.

I slipped out of the bathroom barefoot and stood around the corner.

Serena was lying weakly on the couch.

Mom and Dad were arguing beside her.

Dad’s voice was tense.

“Forget about everything else. Serena is suffering. The family doctor already said she’s in critical condition.

We have to figure out how to get Roo to kill Sloane!”

Mom looked anxious.

“Isn’t there another way?”

“What are you talking about?” Dad snapped. “Why do you think we brought her back in the first place? We

need her to save Serena. She’s the only person who meets the requirements.”

His expression hardened.

“Don’t tell me you’re getting soft now. Serena has been our daughter for over a decade. Are you really going

to stand by and watch her die?”

A weak voice came from the couch.

“Dad… don’t pressure Mom.”

Serena sounded so frail that she could barely get the words out.

“I’m not even your biological daughter. I’m sorry. I won’t be able to take care of you anymore

Mom immediately panicked.

“Serena, don’t think like that. I’ll figure something out. I promise.”

I didn’t stay to hear the rest.

I quietly returned to the bathroom and took a shower.

Mom paced outside the bathroom several times.

Eventually, she knocked.

“Sloane, hurry up. I made chicken soup for you myself. It’ll help you regain your strength. Come out before it

gets cold!”

“Okay.”

My response was flat.

Downstairs, Mom wouldn’t even look at me.

She set the bowl in front of me.

“Drink it before it gets cold.”

I looked at Mom.

Then I glanced at Serena, who was still lying weakly on the couch.

“Mom, Serena looks like she’s really suffering. Why don’t you give it to her first?”

Mom’s expression stiffened.

“You drink it. Serena already ate. You need to eat more.”

I didn’t argue.

Under their expectant gazes, I lifted the bowl and drank every drop of the chicken soup.

“Mom…”

I barely got the word out before my body went limp.

I collapsed to the floor.

Dad immediately rushed over to support the weakened Serena.

Mom looked down at me helplessly.

“Sloane, don’t blame me. I wanted to keep you here a little longer.”

She sighed.

“Even though there isn’t much of a bond between us, you’re still my daughter. I gave birth to you.”

Her voice became colder.

“But you made this impossible. Serena can’t hold on much longer.”

She trailed off with another heavy sigh.

Then Roo appeared in front of me.

It had been completely healed.

Its eyes were bright with excitement.

Everyone watched as Roo charged toward me.

It raised its fist and swung straight for my head.

But in the next instant, a fruit knife plunged through its flesh and stopped just an inch from its heart.

The entire room froze.

Under their horrified gazes, I slowly pushed myself back onto my feet.

Then I smiled.

“I managed to survive the strongest tranquilizers you had for animals.”

I looked straight at them.

“You really thought a few prescription sleeping pills would be enough to take me down?”
