The Mark I Didn’t Want-The Mate I Never Expected Chapter 07
Shane stared at him, completely stunned. “Baron… what the hell are you saying?”
Baron didn’t bother holding back. He practically radiated cold arrogance, like a peacock unfolding
its feathers.
“You wanted to meet your future sister-in-law, right?”
“Well, here she is. Elara’s her.”
“Now be a good brother and say hi.”
Shane’s face went pale-like he’d been struck by lightning.
His fists clenched tight.
“That girl on the phone last night… that was Elara?”
“Baron, what the fuck? You know she’s mine.”
Baron pulled me into his arms, making his claim crystal clear.
His voice dripped with sarcasm and bite.
“Yours? Since when?”
“Did you mark her? Or did you drag her to a courthouse for a marriage license?”
“Weren’t you the one worried she’d cling to you forever?”
“Well, worry no more”
“The only person she’s clinging to from now on is me.”
“And frankly, I’ll take her, gladly, and count myself lucky.”
The guard looked like he was about to take off flying. “Sir, you finally decided to fight for her! I’ll go grab that South Sea Pearl necklace for the future Mrs. Sterling right away. Should I also bring over all the birthday gifts you’ve been stashing for her over the years? They’re going to go out of style
soon!”
Baron had been buying me birthday gifts every single year?
I blurted out, “Yes, yes, yes-bring them all! I’ll take everything!”
Shane kicked a chair across the room, grabbed my arm, and tried to drag me out.
But the two guards at the door didn’t budge an inch. No chance.
Furious, Shane shoved me against the wall in the hospital room.
“Elara, tell me the truth-did my brother force you into this?”
“Just say the word, and I won’t let him lay a hand on you.”
I raised my hand.
And slapped him-hard.
Shane’s eyes went wide. “You hit me?”
“As your future sister-in-law, yeah, I did. And you’re going to take it.”
I’d wanted to do that since last night.
We’d grown up together-years of history.
Even if he didn’t love me, he had no right to humiliate me in front of his friends.
Calling me a dog that came running when he called.
“And for the record, I’m here because I want to be.”
“No one forced me.”
“Last night was my choice. Since you’re so into the campus queen, get out of my life and go chase her. But good luck with that.”
“Mia Mercer’s got her eyes on your brother-she was practically begging to help him last night. Guess she’s not so ‘not the type to be easy’ after all, is she?”
Shane stumbled back a few steps. I smirked.
“Don’t believe me? There are cameras in the hallway. Check them yourself.”
But Shane was fixated on something else.
“Last night… you came looking for me, didn’t you?”
“You… you heard everything?”
I wiped my tears away-angry, bitter tears.
“Yeah, I heard it all.’
“Now I know exactly how little you think of me.”
“Well, Shane, I’m done humiliating myself.”
“I’m done chasing you.”
“Are you happy now?”
I pushed past him and walked straight to Baron.
-good riddance.”
Shane yelled after me, “Fine! Don’t come crawling back to me-
“Let’s see how long you last.”
“And Baron, you really think you’ve won?”
“She’s just mad right now.”
“Give it a few days-she’ll come crying back to me, telling me she can’t live without me. Just you wait. Childhood bonds don’t just disappear!”
And with that, Shane slunk out of the room, utterly defeated.
