The Mafia Don Rejected Her… Then Learned She Was Dying Chapter 04
At that very moment, the wedding ceremony was
about to begin.
Alexander stood at the altar.
But instead of looking at his bride, his gaze kept
drifting toward the crowd.
Searching.
Again and again.
For one person.
Serafina.
Every time, he came up empty.
A strange unease settled in his chest.
Accompanied by a faint, inexplicable pain.
Then Adrian approached.
A folder rested in his hands.
“Don Alexander.”
Adrian hesitated.
“Serafina left New York. Before she went, she
asked me to give you this wedding gift.”
Alexander froze.
For a moment, all sound vanished.
“Left?”
His voice sharpened instantly.
“Where did she go?”
Adrian hadn’t expected such a reaction.
He lowered his eyes.
Remaining silent.
Alexander shot him an icy look before pulling out
his phone and dialing Serafina’s number.
The automated message answered.
“The number you have dialed is currently
unavailable…”
His jaw clenched.
Ignoring Elena.
Ignoring the guests.
Ignoring the entire wedding.
He walked straight out of the ballroom.
Outside, he summoned his Consigliere.
“Tommy.”
The man stepped forward immediately.
“Don.”
“Send men through the venue.”
Alexander’s expression hardened.
“Find Serafina. She’s probably hiding somewhere.”
Tommy nodded and left at once.
Alexander then called the estate.
Natasha answered.
“Don Alexander.”
“Is Serafina home?”
“No, sir. She left early this morning.”
A chill ran down his spine.
“How long ago?”
Natasha thought for a moment.
“Nearly three hours.”
“And she had a large suitcase with her.”
She paused.
“And her parents‘ photograph.”
Alexander’s heart lurched.
He ended the call and immediately opened the
folder Adrian had delivered.
Inside was a property transfer agreement.
His brows knitted together.
What the hell was Serafina doing?
Frustrated, he loosened his tie.
His phone rang.
Tommy.
“Did you find her?”
Alexander rubbed his temple.
“No, Don.”
Tommy sounded uneasy.
“We searched every corner of the venue.”
“She’s not here.”
“Then keep looking.”
Alexander hung up.
His thumb moved to his messages.
And that’s when he noticed the text he’d ignored
earlier.
The goodbye message.
For the first time in years, genuine panic surged through him.
Yet his fingers typed something entirely different.
[Serafina. Call me back.]
[My patience has limits. Stop playing childish.
games.]
The message disappeared into silence.
No response.
Nothing.
Alexander shut his eyes and fought to suppress
the inexplicable fury rising inside him.
“Alex.”
Elena approached, lifting the hem of her wedding.
gown.
“The ceremony’s about to start. Why are you…”
Her eyes landed on the open folder.
[Property Transfer Agreement.]
She laughed coldly.
“Some people really don’t know when to quit.”
“She knew today was our wedding day and still
pulled this stunt.”
“Is she trying to make sure everyone notices her?”
Alexander’s gaze snapped toward her.
Cold enough to freeze steel.
“What exactly are you upset about, Elena?”
His voice cut like a blade.
“This marriage is a business arrangement.”
“Nothing more.”
“We each get what we want.”
“Love has nothing to do with it.”
He closed the folder.
“If you want to postpone the wedding, do it.”
“If you want to cancel it, that’s fine too.”
Then he walked away.
Finding Serafina mattered more.
Back at the Moretti estate, Alexander stormed into
his study.
He powered up his computer and logged into
several encrypted cloud accounts he hadn’t
touched in years.
When Serafina was younger, he had created linked
accounts so he could keep an eye on her and
make sure she was safe.
After her eighteenth birthday, he stopped checking
them.
Now, one by one, he opened the files.
Reading.
Scrolling.
Discovering.
The years he had missed slowly unfolded before
him.
Journal entries.
Photos.
Messages.
Memories.
And in every single one of them, there was only
one constant.
Him.
Alexander Moretti.
The center of her entire world.
Then suddenly, his hand froze on the mouse.
His eyes locked onto a contact name saved in her
records.
[Dr. Liam Carter.
