The Last Time I Loved You Chapter 05

Chapter 5 The Truth Left Behind

“She’s pregnant, and she still can’t help herself. She’s already that eager in the car. Oh, and by the way, from our car window, we have a clear view of your hospital room.”

I forced myself to my feet and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window. The car downstairs rocked slightly. Then the movement grew stronger. And stronger.

Watching the scene below, I summoned the system once more. “You have a way to let me leave this world, don’t you? Please help me.”

When I opened my eyes again, I was back in my college dorm room. I had been reborn to a time before I ever met Luna.

The malfunction of my artificial heart had triggered acute heart failure. The doctors later told Luna that they found me unconscious beside the floor-to-ceiling window.

Through that same window, Luna saw the car where she and Lucien had just been together.

She returned to the house that was supposed to become our marital home. Every piece of furniture and every decoration had been chosen together with love.

Yet in that very house, the video of Lucien holding her by the waist as they passionately made love was still on my phone.

She called my name again and again, but no one answered. Then she remembered what the doctor had said.

Before losing consciousness, I had been clutching my phone tightly in my hand.

“Julian must have felt so helpless then. That’s why he tried to contact me. But at that moment, I was…”

Her voice broke. “I’m horrible. I knew his heart condition was unstable. I should have stayed with him.”

Muttering to herself; Luna unlocked my phone. A conversation labeled “Happy Wedding Day” appeared on the screen. Inside were photos and videos I had organized in advance.

One by one, Luna saw the countless photos, videos, and taunting messages Lucien had sent over the past few days.

The moment she saw the humiliating images and cruel words, it was as though she had been struck by lightning. Her entire

body trembled.

At the very end of the conversation was a voice message I had left behind. After a long hesitation, she tapped it with shaking

fingers.

My voice played through the speaker. “Did Lucien like how you looked in your wedding dress? Happy wedding day. That’s my wish for both of you.”

When the recording ended, Luna sat motionless. It was as if every ounce of strength had been drained from her body.

At that moment, the heart beating inside her finally shared my pain. She finally understood that it was her own reckless actions that had truly killed me.

“I didn’t know. I really didn’t know…” Tears streamed down her face. “I didn’t know Julian’s heart had been transplanted into me. An artificial heart can’t withstand severe emotional fluctuations. I killed Julian…

“How could I be so stupid? Why didn’t I realize it after all those lifetimes? Julian gave me his heart ninety-nine times. Ninety- nine times…”

At last, Luna collapsed to her knees. Broken and hollow, she cried until she nearly lost consciousness.

The household staff eventually found her and rushed her to the hospital.

When Lucien heard she had been hospitalized, he stayed by her bedside for three days, caring for her without rest.

But the moment Luna woke up and saw him, she lunged forward.

Her hand struck his face with a sharp slap before she grabbed him and forced him back against the floor-to-ceiling window of the hospital room.

“I warned you not to provoke him. I warned you over and over!”

Her voice grew colder with every word. “Lucien, where did you get the nerve to challenge Julian to his face?”

The force in her grip was terrifying.

Lucien instinctively shielded her stomach with both hands. Tears spilled from his eyes instantly.

“Luna, I’m sorry. I was wrong. I just love you too much.” His voice trembled. “Please don’t be angry. You’re scaring me.”

He sniffled between words, sounding pitiful and fragile. “The doctor said our baby is healthy. Lùna, the dead can’t come back. From now on, the baby and I will stay by your side.”

A cold laugh escaped Luna. “And what exactly are you?”

She gripped his jaw so hard that bruises immediately appeared across his skin. “The dead can’t come back?”

Her eyes were filled with hatred. “Then you can pay for his life with yours.”
