The High-Libido CEO’s Cold Wife Chapter 03
The next morning, the comments woke me.
[What kind of ridiculous dream was that?]
[It was hilarious. She actually begged the hero while clinging to his leg.]
[The contrast was incredible.]
[If she showed that much awareness in real life, Julian wouldn’t be divorcing her.]
[He went to Caldwell Holdings early this morning.]
[He took the divorce papers he drafted last night.]
[He is meeting with attorney Quinn this afternoon to discuss the case.]
[Chloe finally gave herself a day off. She should use it to pack and move out.]
I rubbed my temples.
The dream had exaggerated my worst fear. Julian had always been generous, and nothing in his character suggested he would use a divorce to destroy my research.
Perhaps I could negotiate for the laboratory.
Still, keeping the laboratory would not make the end of my marriage feel acceptable. I did not want to lose Julian himself.
He supported my career and gave me the freedom to devote myself to it.
I knew I was unlikely to find another partner who treated me so well.
Somewhere inside three years of quiet companionship, his steady care had become essential to me, and I had fallen in love without recognizing the change.
Once I admitted that truth, the choice before me became simple.
I would save our marriage.
As long as I had not signed the divorce papers, there was still room to repair what had gone wrong.
[She may already be too late.]
[The Sirenthorn heroine is bringing the hero coffee right now.]
[She could tell at a glance that he has been deprived for a long time.]
[A man in that condition won’t resist much flirting.]
[The CEO suite is about to become their playground.]
[Julian’s suite has a private lounge, bathroom, and shower.]
[He prepared all kinds of games and toys.]
[Julian hinted about them countless times, but Chloe always refused to visit his office.]
[Now he can try every one of them with the Sirenthorn heroine.]
[The suite has professional soundproofing, so no one outside will hear a thing.]
The image of Lydia alone with Julian sent me out of bed before I could think of another excuse to wait.
I chose a flattering dress, took unusual care with my makeup, and decided to surprise Julian at Caldwell Holdings with an afternoon snack.
I baked the pastries myself and decorated the miniature cakes with flowers, fruit, and green leaves to make them look like spring.
[Who knew she could bake for Julian?]
[The dress, the makeup, and the little cakes show some real effort.]
[Did she finally figure it out? This doesn’t look like an ordinary snack delivery.]
[She wrapped herself up as the gift.]
[Where was all this effort before?]
[She waited until he wanted a divorce before trying to win him back.]
[It won’t work. The hero and heroine are already setting the office on fire.]
Despite everything the comments predicted, three years beside Julian had given me reason to trust his character.
Even if he wanted a divorce, no petition had been filed. He should have enough self-control to remain faithful.
[Don’t be so sure.]
[He can resist other women.]
[But Lydia Brooks is the heroine of this story, and she belongs with Julian.]
[The hero and heroine will have chemistry the moment they meet.]
[Besides, Chloe knows how long she has kept him waiting.]
I drove my SUV toward Caldwell Holdings.
Because I had never visited the headquarters, I entered the marble lobby carrying my cakes and headed toward reception for directions.
The receptionist recognized me. “You’re Mrs. Caldwell, aren’t you?
I’ll call Mr. Caldwell right away.”
I paused. “You know who I am?”
I had been married to the company’s CEO for three years, yet this was the first time I had ever stepped inside his workplace.
She smiled. “There are photos of you and Mr. Caldwell on the charity-gala display downstairs and in his executive profile on our website.”
Then she called the CEO suite.
“Mr. Caldwell, your wife is in the lobby.”
Julian answered, “Bring her up.”
“Of course.” The receptionist ended the call and escorted me to the private executive elevator.
The CEO suite occupied the ninth floor.
The elevator doors had barely opened on the ninth floor when Lydia hurried from the CEO suite directly into my path.
She collided with me, knocking the box of cakes from my hands.
