The Healer’s Fatal Warning Chapter 08
Ever since I was a student, I’ve had a little-known habit.
After writing the last letter of my name, I subconsciously add a tiny, almost invisible upward flick, like a wolf’s claw, at the end of the stroke.
It was an unconscious habit I’d developed over years.
In my normal signature, the flick is so light it’s barely noticeable.
I had never told anyone about it.
Not even Stella had ever noticed.
Her forgery looked perfect at first glance, but it carried a fatal flaw.
“Those signatures are all fakes. At the end of the name, there’s no little wolf-claw flick that only I make.”
Stella’s fingertips trembled violently. She couldn’t hide the panic in her eyes anymore.
She never dreamed I had a habit like that. Her disguise crumbled.
To make the evidence irrefutable, the Enforcer spoke in a low, firm voice.
“Bring me every physical file Cora has signed in the last three months. We’ll compare them on the spot.”
The head nurse rushed to the archives.
She returned with a thick stack of files and spread them out for everyone to see.
The crowd gathered around, their eyes glued to each real signature.
Sure enough, at the end of every single one, there was a faint wolf-claw flick.
The Enforcer immediately declared the signature Harrison had presented to be a forgery.
Layer after layer of the deception was torn away.
The meticulously planned, seemingly perfect, and vicious scheme was finally exposed to the world.
The expressions on the faces of the Ironclaw Pack members changed completely.
The hatred in their eyes, once directed at me, now shifted entirely to the trembling Stella and her father, Harrison.
Faced with irrefutable proof, the colleagues who had previously stood against me finally broke.
The first to give in to his conscience was Julian, the Beta assistant who had treated my leg.
He stepped forward.
“Enforcer, I confess. It wasn’t Cora who killed the Luna. It was Stella.
“The Head Elder threatened all of us with exile from the territory. That’s why we all lied to frame Cora.
“He said that if anyone spoke a word of the truth, he would have our healer’s marks permanently stripped and have us blacklisted from practicing in all of North America. We were forced into it.”
Next, a young nurse, her eyes red, stepped forward.
Her voice choked with sobs.
“It was Stella who made the mistake and killed the Luna. The Elder forced all of us to give false testimony and frame Cora.”
With the first confession, the dam broke. The others unloaded their guilt, one by one.
The group turned on their former leader.
All the false testimonies were retracted.
All the dirty details were dragged into the light.
The ambulance driver, who had rushed to the scene, couldn’t bear the guilt any longer. He produced the backup copy of his dashcam footage he had secretly saved.
“Enforcer, the Elder destroyed the original video, but I was afraid something like this might happen, so I made a backup.”
