The Fireworks Weren’t for Me, the Baby Wasn’t Mine Chapter 12
I underestimated Harrison’s persistence.Â
He finally found me, standing on the street looking travel–worn when he ran right into me as I was coming out of the supermarket.Â
Before I could speak, Leo stepped in front of me.Â
He looked at Harrison with disgust and suspicion:Â
“Go away!”Â
“Or I’m calling the police!”Â
Several people turned to look.Â
I took Leo’s hand and said nothing, leading himÂ
toward our house.Â
I didn’t want to get into any entanglements withÂ
Harrison.Â
Just looking at him once was enough to make meÂ
feel sick all day.Â
“Mommy, he’s not coming to live with us, right?”Â
Leo was still looking back.Â
“I hate him.”Â
“Of course not,” I said. “We have nothing to do withÂ
him anymore.”Â
Harrison stood there, his mind filled with theÂ
scene that just unfolded.Â
Leo’s hatred for him.Â
He saw Madeline’s disgust clearly.Â
Harrison’s feet felt like they were made of lead; the person he thought of day and night was right inÂ
front of him, yet he had neither the power nor the courage to step forward.Â
Not even a single step.Â
He watched helplessly as Leo and I grew moreÂ
distant.Â
His heart felt as if an invisible hand were crushingÂ
it, pain so sharp he could barely breathe.Â
For three years, Harrison had searched forÂ
Madeline like a madman.Â
He turned down all irrelevant social functions, put aside most of his work at Sterling Enterprises, and used every connection he had to search every cityÂ
in the country.Â
He then turned his sights abroad, sinking endless money and energy, never stopping for a moment.Â
He had given Scarlett Brooks a large sum ofÂ
money and sent her away.Â
She had aborted the child as well.Â
After realizing she could never be the mistress of the house.Â
Harrison stayed in the empty estate, looking at the wedding photos, guarding the home that was once full of laughter but was now bone–chillingly cold.Â
He lived in regret day and night.Â
He finally realized exactly what a bastard he had been.Â
But everything was already too broken to fix.Â
If he could go back to the past, Harrison wouldÂ
have killed himself without hesitation.Â
Then he wouldn’t be like he was now.Â
Wishing he were dead.
