The Fireworks Weren’t for Me, the Baby Wasn’t Mine Chapter 10
Harrison had been with Scarlett Brooks for theÂ
past few days.Â
However, he was somewhat distracted, reachingÂ
for his phone several times to text Madeline, butÂ
seeing the empty chat log, his pride wouldn’t letÂ
him be the first to reach out.Â
He had told her to pick a house, but there hadÂ
been no news.Â
He thought she was still sulking, waiting for him toÂ
go and coax her personally.Â
“Mr. Sterling, please see which one you’d like toÂ
choose.” The real estate agent spread out theÂ
blueprints.Â
“They all meet your requirements: large area, greatÂ
natural light, and a private garden.”Â
“It’s perfect for your wife to spend her pregnancy.”Â
Scarlett blushed.Â
Harrison flipped through the papers and saidÂ
offhandedly, “She isn’t my wife.”Â
Scarlett’s smile froze instantly.Â
Her hand hung in the air; she didn’t know whether to grab Harrison’s arm or just let it drop.Â
The agent coughed awkwardly: “So, Mr. Sterling, which one do you prefer?”Â
Harrison pulled out the blueprint for the largestÂ
one.Â
“This one.”Â
“She likes gardening, so this sun–facing garden isÂ
perfect. We also need to leave a space in the yardÂ
for a swing set for Leo.”Â
Scarlett felt a tightening in her chest.Â
“Harrison, there’s no need to buy her such a bigÂ
house.”Â
“Just getting her something for appearancesÂ
should be enough…”Â
Harrison’s expression darkened.Â
“This is all because of you anyway.”Â
“And Scarlett, this is my family matter. TheÂ
prerequisite for my indulgence is that you do notÂ
interfere in my life.”Â
“You are, after all, just someone I’m keeping.”Â
The atmosphere turned stagnant.Â
Scarlett fell back on her usual tactic, bowing herÂ
head and looking as if she were about to burstÂ
into tears.Â
Harrison felt a strange wave of irritability.Â
He waved his hand, signaling the agent to get theÂ
contract signed quickly.Â
Several days passed, all procedures wereÂ
completed, and the house was successfullyÂ
registered in Madeline’s name.Â
But the woman still hadn’t contacted him.Â
Harrison grew increasingly uneasy, and finally, heÂ
gave in and drove to the hospital.Â
When he aggressively pushed open the door to theÂ
patient room, he saw only an empty bed.Â
“Where is she?”Â
He grabbed a passing nurse.Â
The nurse peered inside and said, confused, “SheÂ
was discharged days ago.”Â
“Did the family not know?”Â
The bouquet Harrison was holding fell to the floor.Â
Right then, his screen flashed with a singleÂ
notification.Â
Madeline Vance had sold the estate he had justÂ
bought for her.
