The Fireworks Weren’t for Me, the Baby Wasn’t Mine Chapter 04
I screamed at her.
The call was disconnected. I tried again, but she wouldn’t answer, so I switched to text.
I gave her a piece of my mind, inside and out.
“I am warning you for the last time: my child is my bottom line!”
“If you or Harrison ever dare to hurt Leo again, I will haunt you for the rest of your lives!”
After soothing Leo to sleep, I sat on the balcony all night.
I watched as the sky gradually turned gray.
I watched as the gates opened and a luxury car drove in.
I watched as Harrison tenderly helped the woman out, wrapping a shawl around her to block the morning chill.
My eyes were incredibly dry.
I blinked, moving my gaze from those two embracing figures to our wedding photo on the wall.
I felt that these eight years were truly meaningless.
Knock knock—
“Ma’am, the Master is calling for you downstairs.”
Harrison sat on the sofa, one arm around a red-eyed Scarlett and the other holding her phone.
When he saw me, his expression turned completely cold.
“What did you do last night?”
“Exactly what you see,” I said. “I have a recording here. Do you want to hear how I talked to her?”
Harrison smashed the phone at my feet.
Crash—
It shattered into pieces.
The shards sliced into my calf, and blood stained my loungewear.
“Madeline, have you lost your mind?” his voice was heavy. “Why did you call Scarlett in the middle of the night to harass her?”
“She cried all night.”
“You’ve been pregnant before; you know the first trimester is when you need to avoid emotional stress. Why can’t you have some empathy? Was this scene really necessary?”
I was so disgusted I just wanted to laugh.
“What’s wrong with calling out a home-wrecker?”
At those words, Scarlett began to wail.
She clutched her chest as if she couldn’t breathe. “I… I’ll leave… I’m sorry…”
“I’ll terminate the pregnancy…”
Harrison stood up, walked over to me, and gripped my jaw tightly.
He cut off my voice.
In his eyes was not just disgust, but hatred.
“Are you trying to kill my child?”
“Madeline, how can your heart be so malicious?”
I shuddered, staring at him in disbelief.
His words were like red-hot branding irons against my skin.
I couldn’t hide, I couldn’t escape. Every inch of flesh was aching, and every nerve was screaming, making me want to howl in pain.
But my pride took over.
I would rather bite the inside of my cheek than let a single tear fall.
I would not show a single sign of weakness in front of Harrison Sterling.
Absolutely not.
Because he would never protect me again.
“That’s right.” I gritted my teeth.
“I am malicious. If you have the guts, throw me out.”
“Otherwise, I will never let you two have a moment of peace, and I will never apologize.”
