The Don Who Chose Wrong Chapter 06
My father’s words crashed over the room like a tsunami.Â
Dante’s face cycled through emotions. Disbelief. Realization. Terror. Finally, desperate calculation.Â
I could see his mind racing. Trying to find an angle. An escape.Â
“Don, if I had known-”Â
“If you had known, you would have treated my daughter differently?” My father raised an eyebrow. The mockery was unmistakable. “So you admit you only respect the powerful? In your eyes, Seraphina without the Bellandi name deserved to be humiliated?”Â
“No! I mean-” Dante stammered.Â
“This is all a misunderstanding. Ava–Seraphina—she neverÂ
told me. How could I have known?”Â
“You could have asked.” My voice was ice. “Five years. Married for five years, and you never wondered? A ‘helpless‘ woman who could fix all your problems with one phone call?”Â
Irina, who’d been frozen in terror since my father’s arrival, finally screamed. “This is ridiculous! Dante, tell them it’s notÂ
true! She’s just a—”Â
My father’s gaze snapped to her. Her words died. She froze. Like a rabbit caught by a wolf. Her face went sheet–white.Â
“Who are you?”Â
“I-”Â
“A whore,” my father finished calmly. “Yes, I am aware of theÂ
situation. I understand you encouraged tonight’sÂ
entertainment. You wanted to see my daughter humiliated.”Â
“I didn’t know. I swear, I didn’t know who she wasÂ
“But you knew she was a woman. Dante’s wife. And you chose cruelty anyway.” My father turned to Camila. His tone brooked no argument. “Get her to the car. Her fate will be decidedÂ
later.”Â
“No!” Irina screamed and tried to run. Two armed guards seized her. “Dante! Save me! You said you loved me! Dante!”Â
Dante didn’t move. Didn’t even look at her. His eyes were locked on me. I watched him make his choice. Push her intoÂ
the abyss.Â
“I don’t even know her,” he rushed out. Desperate to distance himself. “She’s just some casino girl. Means nothing to me!”Â
“As for Seraphina, this was all her idea. She was jealous of you. She wanted to hurt you! I brought her here tonight to teach her a lesson. To expose her. To get rid of her-”Â
“Stop,” I said in disgust. “You’re making me sick.”Â
Irina’s screams faded as they dragged her out. The casinoÂ
became a tomb. Everyone too terrified to move or speak.Â
My father walked to the center table. Pulled out a chair and satÂ
down casually. Enzo and Camila stood behind him withÂ
deferential postures. The message was clear. The Bellandi family controlled everything now.Â
“Let me explain how this works.” My father’s voice was steadyÂ
and powerful. “Five years ago, my daughter came to New YorkÂ
to explore business opportunities. She met Mr. Russo.”Â
“In a moment of foolishness, she saw potential in him. Against my advice, she insisted on helping him. She even married him. Thought it was love.”Â
He pulled out a cigar. Someone immediately lit it for him.Â
“For five years, the Bellandi family protected Dante Russo’s business. Every casino license he holds, including this one, was arranged by us.”Â
“All of it was for my daughter’s husband. A gift from me to her.”Â
“But gifts can be taken back.”Â
“Mr. Russo, effective immediately, the Bellandi family withdraws its protection. Your enemies. Your broken deals. The cops you’ve bribed. They are all free to come for you now.”Â
“Wait-” Dante started to beg.Â
My father cut him off sharply. “I’m not finished. You laid hands on my daughter. Allowed others to humiliate her. Even permitted men to violate her. That debt must be paid.”Â
He turned to me. His tone softened. “Seraphina, how would you like me to handle your husband?”Â
I looked at Dante. Really looked at him. This man I’d loved. Built up. Who’d destroyed everything for a stranger.Â
“I want a divorce,” I said, my voice unshakable. “Immediately.Â
I want him to understand exactly what he’s lost.”Â
My father nodded. “Very well. Camila, make the arrangements. As for making him understand his loss…”Â
“Mr. Russo, by dawn, all of America will know the Bellandi family no longer supports you. Within a week, you will understand what it means to have nothing.”Â
“You can’t do this!” Dante weakly roared. “I haveÂ
connections! I have power-”Â
“You have nothing.” Enzo cut in. Contempt dripped from every word. “All your ‘connections‘ were based on theÂ
assumption that you had Bellandi backing.”Â
“Without it…” He shrugged.Â
“You are already a walking dead man.”
