Meanwhile, I’m sitting on a long–distance train bound for Connecticut.
My phone keeps buzzing nonstop as messages from my family pile up one after another..
[Chloe! Where the hell are you? Get your ass home!]
[So you think you’re too good for us now? You got into Royal Fang and suddenly forgot you have a family? Everything we taught you was wasted!]
[Chloe, Mom is sick because of you. Even if you’re angry with me, you can’t just abandon your
mother.]
I stare at the harsh messages on my screen without a flicker of emotion.
Select all. Delete. Block.
A few hours later, the train pulls into New Haven.
Logan is waiting at the station to pick me up, “Welcome to New Haven, Chloe.”
He naturally takes my suitcase from me with a smile.
“For the next four years, I guess we’re classmates again.”
After I get settled in, Logan takes me to a restaurant nearby.
I lift my glass of water and look at him.
“Logan, thank you. Really. Without you, I might not even have a college to attend.”
Logan smiles and raises his glass to mine.
“You don’t have to thank me. If anything, I should be thanking you.”
I pause.
Logan’s smile fades, and his expression turns serious.
“Back in my sophomore year, I competed in the Werewolf Realm Warrior Championship and was
falsely accused of cheating by one of my competitors.”
“I had no way to prove I was innocent. I almost got disqualified, and it could’ve ruined my college
applications.”
“Everyone was waiting to watch me fall.”
“You were the one who stayed up all night helping me organize the entire timeline, sources, and
evidence, even though you were a STEM student.”
You brought everything to the judges and used the logic you were so good at, proving piece by
piece that I couldn’t have plagiarized the work.”
Logan looks straight into my eyes and speaks slowly and sincerely.
“Chloe, you helped me once. I’ll remember that for the rest of my life.”
I look at him, warmth spreading through my chest.
Before I can respond, a loud bang suddenly comes from beside us.
“Bang!”
Someone slams a hand down on our table.
I turn around.
Xavier is standing beside the table, his eyes bloodshot and his face drawn with exhaustion. His
chest heaves as a powerful wave of Alpha aura instantly presses down on us.
“Chloe, whatever this is, you’ve dragged it out long enough!”
He glares at me, his voice trembling with anger.
“I had to ask half the pack just to find out you came to New Haven!”
“Who the hell do you think you are, blocking me? You disappear without a word, and then I find you here having dinner with him?”
He suddenly points at Logan, his teeth clenched.
“You secretly applied to Royal Fang because of him, didn’t you? Did you betray our mate bond?”
I lean back in my chair, watching him lose control. I can’t help but find it ridiculous.
“Xavier, what gives you the right to question me?”
“I’m your Alpha. I’m your mate!”
He practically roars the words.
“Mate?”
Before I can say anything else, Logan gets to his feet and steps in front of me.
He’s half a head taller than Xavier, and he looks at him coldly, openly releasing his own power.
“That’s none of your business.”
He pauses, his voice turning even colder.
“A guy who secretly logged into someone else’s application account and changed her college
applications has no right to stand here and question her.”
Xavier goes completely still, “You… What the hell are you talking about?”
He stumbles back a step, staring at me, “Chloe, let me explain. I didn’t…”
I stand up, pick up the glass of ice water on the table, and throw it straight in his face.
“Shut up. You’re making me sick.”
I set the empty glass back on the table and look at him coldly.
“Show up in front of me again, and I’m calling the police.”
Then I turn around and leave the restaurant with Logan without giving Xavier another glance.
Two weeks later, it’s freshman move–in day at Royal Fang.
I’m just getting ready to head to the afternoon orientation event when the phone on my desk suddenly starts vibrating nonstop.
It’s Logan.
The moment I answer, I hear the urgency in his voice.
“Chloe! Don’t go out through the main entrance!”
“Your mom, Landon, and Megan somehow got onto campus!”
“They’re causing a scene at the front gate right now!”
