The Daughter They Overlooked Was a Golden Wolf Chapter 04

Two weeks later, the college admission results are officially released.

The living room erupts first thing in the morning.

Mom slaps her thigh, tears of excitement welling up in her eyes.

“Megan got in!”

“It’s not an Ivy League school, but it’s still one of the better public universities in the state!”

Landon pats Megan on the head, looking incredibly proud.

“Megan, I told you. I knew you’d surprise us this time!”

The doorbell rings.

Xavier walks in carrying a huge bouquet of white roses. He walks straight past me and puts the

flowers into Megan’s arms.

My wolf, Rue, lets out a low sad whine.

“Megan, the college I’m attending is close to yours. If you need anything, just call me.”

Holding the bouquet, Megan shyly leans into Mom’s arms.

“Thank you, Mom. And thank you, Landon. Thank you, Alpha Xavier.”

Only then does Mom remember me. She finally turns toward me.

“Chloe, what about your results?”

The smile disappears from Landon’s face, replaced by a solemn expression.

“Mom, I checked for her.”

He pauses, “Chloe… didn’t get into a single school.”

The living room falls silent for two seconds.

Mom stares at him, “What do you mean, she didn’t get in? Her grades are among the best in the

whole school!”

Megan’s eyes widen, and she covers her mouth.

“What? How could Chloe…”

Landon waves his phone and lets out a cold laugh.

“What good are perfect grades if you screw everything up when college applications actually

matter?”

Xavier laughs along.

“Megan, you really came through this time. You finally beat your sister at something. I’m proud of

you.”

Megan laughs brightly, but she deliberately puts on a concerned expression.

“Mom, don’t be mad at Chloe.”

“I already asked the school. Their gap–year academic program still has spots. They can help her prepare for another round of applications.”

“We’re going to school today to celebrate my acceptance anyway. We can ask about the paperwork

while we’re there.”

Mom nods repeatedly and points at me.

“Chloe, you’ve always been too confident! Maybe this will finally teach you a lesson.”

Megan walks over and gently tugs at my sleeve.

“Chloe, it’s okay. Taking an extra year to prepare for college isn’t embarrassing.”

“You’re smart. Give yourself another year, and you’ll definitely get into a good school.”

Half an hour later, they all head to our high school, Darkstone High.

The moment we reach the hallway outside the academic office, Megan’s teacher comes over to

greet us warmly.

“Megan, congratulations! That’s a great state–school acceptance!”

“Your whole family must be thrilled.”

Megan gives a shy nod, “Thank you.”

As soon as we enter the hallway, several students from our graduating class recognize me.

They all stop in their tracks. Clearly, the news has already spread.

“Chloe got rejected everywhere?”

“No way. She’s the strongest STEM student in school.”

“With SAT and AP scores like hers, she didn’t get into a single college?”

“What did she even apply to?”

Several students lower their voices and whisper among themselves.

Megan stops and glances back at me.

She sighs and speaks to the students beside her in an incredibly sympathetic tone.

“Chloe just aimed too high. She’s always wanted the best of everything. If she’d played it safe, this

never would’ve happened.”

“She should’ve been more practical, like me.”

Xavier stands beside her in complete silence.

He doesn’t defend me or say a single word on my behalf. He just watches coldly as I become the laughingstock of the school.

Mom is already impatient. She pushes open the door to the academic office.

“Mrs. Carter, my daughter Chloe didn’t do well with her college applications.”

“She’s too embarrassed to come forward herself, so I’d like to apply for the gap–year program. Could you tell me how the process works?”

Mrs. Carter is sorting through some papers. The moment she hears this, her pen stops in midair.

“Chloe didn’t do well?”

Mom nods repeatedly.

“Yes. Her grades are excellent, but something went wrong with her applications. We want her to

spend a year preparing again.”

Mrs. Carter’s expression grows increasingly strange.

Finally, she sets down the papers in her hands, “Wait. Are you sure you have the right

information?”

Mom freezes, “What?”

“Chloe didn’t tell you?”

Mrs. Carter frowns, “Chloe wasn’t rejected.”

“She’s already been accepted into Royal Fang’s warrior program, the most prestigious academy for

elite werewolves.”

“It’s basically the MIT of the werewolf world.”
