The Bride They Rejected Owned Half Their Empire Chapter 08
“I’ve been calling you nonstop all day, and youÂ
won’t pick up or reply to a single message.”Â
Rowan spoke as he walked forward, reaching outÂ
to grab Seraphina’s hand, his face etched withÂ
obvious worry.Â
He clearly had no clue about the entire sceneÂ
unfolding around him.Â
Kael stepped forward slowly, his presence coldÂ
and intimidating.Â
Rowan finally noticed him, and the casual smile onÂ
his face froze completely.Â
“You’re Kael Harrington?”Â
Kael didn’t reply. He simply stared down atÂ
Rowan’s hand still holding Seraphina’s wrist.Â
Rowan quickly pulled his hand back awkwardly-Â
but the damage was already done.Â
“Rowan.” Kael’s voice was flat and devoid ofÂ
warmth.Â
“What exactly is your relationship with Seraphina?”Â
Rowan forced an awkward laugh.Â
“We’re just old close friends, nothing more.”Â
“Close friends send texts saying Babe, don’t panicÂ
about the baby situation?”Â
Rowan’s fake smile vanished entirely from hisÂ
face.Â
He turned to stare accusingly at Seraphina.Â
“Seraphina, what’s going on here? You told me.Â
your relationship with him was just a businessÂ
arrangement!”Â
That single sentence shattered every last lie Seraphina had told.Â
She’d described her romance with Kael to RowanÂ
as nothing more than a fake business alliance.Â
To Kael, she’d painted Rowan as just an ordinaryÂ
old school acquaintance.Â
She’d been lying to both men this entire time.Â
Kael stared at her with cold, unforgiving eyes.Â
“Seraphina… do you have any explanation left atÂ
all?”Â
“Kael, he’s lying! He’s just an obsessive stalkerÂ
who won’t leave me alone!” Seraphina’s voiceÂ
turned shrill and desperate.Â
“I already cut all ties with him ages ago!”Â
“Cut ties?” Rowan’s frustration boiled overÂ
instantly.Â
“You were still at my apartment three nights ago!”Â
Seraphina shoved him away violently.Â
“Shut your mouth right now!”Â
“Seraphina!” Rowan stumbled back from the force.Â
of her push, staring at her in complete disbelief.Â
“You promised me once the baby was born, we’dÂ
be together for good. You said your relationshipÂ
with Harrington was all just an act for socialÂ
status!”Â
The entire room erupted into shocked murmurs.Â
The whispers of the guests in the adjacent roomÂ
filtered through the walls, loud and buzzing.Â
Alden collapsed into a nearby chair, all color drained from his face.Â
Marigold tried to steady him, but he roughly pushed her hand away.Â
“Did you know about all of this?” He stared at Marigold accusingly, not bothering to hide hisÂ
rage.Â
“I only knew she’d been spending time with Rowan -I had no idea she was siphoning corporate funds!” Marigold’s voice trembled with panic.Â
“You didn’t know?” Alden raised his voice in furiousÂ
disbelief.Â
“Over a million dollars transferred out of our familyÂ
company–and you, who manage all householdÂ
and corporate finances, claim you noticedÂ
nothing?”Â
Marigold’s face crumpled completely, unable toÂ
defend herself.Â
The elderly matriarch leaned calmly against herÂ
cane, watching the entire meltdown unfoldÂ
without a single change in expression.Â
She turned to Hiram Croft beside her.Â
“Send for the family legal team at once.”Â
Then she glanced over at Kael.Â
“The decision of how to handle this betrothal isÂ
yours to make.”Â
Kael stood frozen in place.Â
The marriage covenant lay spread out on the table beside Seraphina’s phone and the old photograph of his grandfather and my mother.Â
He stared at everything for a long, heavy moment.Â
Finally, he lifted his head to meet my gaze directly.Â
“Elowen… I’m so sorry.”Â
It was the first genuine, unhostile thing he’d said toÂ
me all day.
