The Bride He Was Warned Not to Marry Chapter 07

After I gave my statement at the police station and signed the papers, I didn’t see Sarah again.

William was taken into custody, and the Harrington family hired the best legal team in the country

to defend him.

They even came to see me.

Before I could say anything, Margaret Harrington sat across from me and leaned in, her voice trembling

“I know William was wrong to lie to you. But you found out in time. You didn’t actually lose anything,”

“You two were together for years. He was there for you when you were at your lowest.”

“When William said he wanted to marry you, I had my reservations about your background, but I didn’t stop it.”

“Emily, for my sake, and for the sake of what you two used to have, can you let him go?”

Her voice was thick with tears, as if William’s fate were my fault.

I moved aside and sat on a nearby couch, my face expressionless.

“You already knew about William and Sarah, didn’t you?”

Margaret’s face stiffened. The desperation and grief on her face vanished in an instant.

She didn’t answer, so I kept going. “You knew they were together. You knew Sarah was pregnant.”

“So you were fine with William marrying me, not because you liked me or respected me. You just knew it would never last.”

“You knew from the start, and you stood by and watched. Now that it’s ended this way, you can keep watching from the sidelines.”

I only learned later from the news reports that by the end of last month, after Sarah found out she was pregnant, William had already taken her to get a marriage license.

They even held a small reception with just close friends and family.

Everyone was told to keep it quiet. I was William’s official girlfriend, and I never heard a word.

Everyone knew about the lie. Only I was kept in the dark.

Margaret’s face turned hard. She let out a cold laugh.

“I didn’t humble myself to come here today because this is hard to fix. I just don’t want the damage to spread.”

“Emily, don’t push too hard. What if someday you hit a rough patch and we decide to kick you while you’re down?”

I smiled, not worried. “If you manage to hurt me, then so be it. I lose. That’s that.”

“All I know is right now, he belongs in prison, where he can think about what he did.”

Margaret saw she couldn’t win and turned to leave with her bodyguard.

The next day, the news broke. Articles and videos about William’s fake wedding, his bigamy, and the forged government documents exploded online.

Public outrage grew.

The legal team Margaret hired all found excuses to withdraw, no one wanted the case.

In the end, after Margaret pulled every string she could, William was sentenced to three years.

I filed a civil suit for emotional distress and won quickly.

But William had one condition: he wanted to see me.

I hadn’t seen him since the day at the fake courthouse.

I spent a day at the place we used to live together, packing up all my things.

I either burned or threw away anything connected to him, photos, gifts, everything.

When I left, all I had were two suitcases.

When I walked into the prison to see William, I had just finished a job interview and was still wearing my business suit.

William’s eyes widened for a moment, surprised to see me confident and energetic.
