The Boyfriend I Made Up Ordered A Ride I Never Booked Chapter 02

The RHD was standing nearby, grinning like she was in on a secret.

“Lucky girl.”

The courier nodded along. “Your boyfriend knew you had an early class today. Didn’t want you

rushing to the dining hall of eating cold food. He had me time it so it’d be hot when you got it.”

My mind went blank. I froze right there.

The professor had only announced the 7 AM class switch last night. How did he even know that?

The courier tapped “Delivered” on his phone and turned to leave. I grabbed his arm.

“Hey, quick question-what does my boyfriend look like?”

He stared at me like I’d grown a second head.

I gave a tight smile. “It’s online. We haven’t met in person yet.’

His eyes lit up. He nodded like he totally got it.

“I didn’t see him myself. But Ms. Hayes, with a guy this thoughtful? Just lock it down already.”

I thanked him stiffly, carried the bag to class, and flipped the card over and over.

I didn’t recognize the handwriting. I’d never seen it before.

Maybe the restaurant wrote it for him, though.

The Gourmet Lobster Roll was still steaming-my absolute favorite, from the place ten miles away

that I only treated myself to when I got my scholarship money.

This person knew way too much about me.

The more I thought about it, the more my skin crawled.

Morgan dropped into the seat next to me. She spotted the bag and her eyes went wide.

“Ooh, your guy again? These Lobster Rolls are crazy expensive. I almost bought one last time, but

then I saw the price tag-eighteen bucks each. Noped right out.”

She leaned in, spotted the card, and let out a dramatic squeal.

“He even writes little notes! So romantic! Elena, you must’ve saved the galaxy in a past life.”

I gave another tight smile and said nothing.

if I saved the galaxy, then who the hell was going to save me?

If someone really had a crush on me, why all the sneaking around? Why call yourself my boyfriend?

The gifts kept coming.

My pen’s tip broke off? A new Montblanc rollerball showed up on my desk the next day.

Cramps hit during class? By afternoon, there were ThermaCare wraps and a bottle of Midol tucked in my drawer.

I got stuck on a Calculus problem. Went to the bathroom for two minutes. Came back to a

handwritten solution sitting on my seat.

Every step laid out clear. The last line read: “You’ve got this. Ace that exam.”

And the signature, always the same-“Your loving boyfriend.”

Even my classmates started teasing me.

“Elena, when are you gonna bring that generous, mysterious boyfriend of yours around so we can

meet him?”

“Yeah, you’ve been hiding him forever. Afraid we’ll steal him?”

I laughed it off every time.

But the fear was sinking in deeper.

This person was everywhere. All my moves. All my preferences. He knew it all.

I barely even talked in the dorm anymore. Felt like there were eyes on me, always watching.

What finally broke me was going home for the weekend.

Mom said the fruit market was struggling. She was thinking about shutting it down. But if she did,

we’d have no income.

I cried into my pillow that night. Didn’t tell a soul.

The next morning, Mom shook me awake, her voice shaking too.

“Elena-I just got a call. Oak Grove Restaurant Group picked us as their fruit supplier.”

I shot up, heart pounding.

“Mom, that’s amazing! We can keep the shop open!”

“But… they also sent a card.”

My hand trembled as I took it. The familiar card. The joy drained from my face.

“A little something for my future mother-in-law. – Your loving boyfriend.”
