The Billionaire Who Faked My Love Story And Lost The Real One Chapter 08

Wren’s smile died.

“What?”

“Elara’s rings. The ones you took from her room.”

“Give them back.”

Silence filled the room.

Wren went white. Even her lips were shaking.

She shot upright. The bandage caught on the bedrail and the gauze bloomed red.

“Garrick, are you serious right now? I slit my wrist!”

“I almost died! And the first thing out of your mouth is about her rings?”

“Give them back.”

He said it again.

Wren went still. Like the air had been knocked out of her.

Then she broke. She cried until she couldn’t breathe, her knuckles bone–white around the sheets.

“Garrick, did you ever love me? Even once?”

“Am I always going to be second to her?!”

Garrick looked at her wrecked face.

And felt nothing.

After Elara lost her memory, she’d gone gentle. Softer every year.

The edge was still in her, but she never turned it on him.

People were pathetic that way. He kept missing who she used to be.

So when Wren showed up wearing the old Elara like a costume, he couldn’t look away.

But she was never Elara. He saw that now.

There was only one Elara.

Garrick exhaled.

“We were a mistake.”

“I’m sorry. I just figured it out myself. It was always her. The whole time, it was only ever her.”

When screamed until her voice gave out, hurling everything she could grab.

Garrick didn’t move. He let her throw it all.

His eyes were empty. Whatever she was looking for in them was gone.

This was the only apology he had left.

His phone buzzed.

He pulled it out.

His assistant.

[Mr. Ashford, we’ve found Elara.]

A jolt of pure adrenaline hit him. He was out the door before the screen dimmed.

Wren was screaming something behind him. He didn’t hear a word of it.

His footsteps hammered down the hallway.

The stairwell door cracked against the wall as he took the steps two at a time.

Tires screamed as he tore out of the hospital lot.

One image kept playing on a loop behind his eyes.

Elara, ducking into that black car.

The streetlight catching the curve of her mouth. Like she’d been waiting, and the right person had finally shown up.

His jaw locked. The pain in his chest kept building.

And then the thought hit him. Five years ago, in that wedding car.

Had she looked at Silas the same way?
