She Wanted Everyone to Remember Her Birthday, So I Let Them Remember It Forever Chapter 08

“Chad, save your breath. The engagement is officially off! This apartment has absolutely nothing to do with you. You, your mother, and Ophelia better keep an eye out for my lawyer’s letters.”

Mr. Valour didn’t give Chad another chance to play the victim. He immediately ordered everyone downstairs to the property management office to document their losses.

The moment I walked into the lobby, I saw the front desk surrounded by a frantic crowd.

Millie was crying as she clutched an empty jewelry box.

The owner of 1902 was holding a broken piece of premium wooden flooring, and the young mother from 1202 was holding her child, her hands trembling uncontrollably.

“Pictures of my daughter’s bedroom were posted all over a local community group! Even the sign with her name on it was caught perfectly on camera! Who is going to give me an explanation for this? What right did those people have to barge into my home?”

“Six boxes of my imported wooden flooring went missing! Six boxes! I paid three thousand dollars

a box for those!”

“A complete stranger pushed the door open and walked right into my apartment. My mother was so terrified it triggered her heart condition, and the ambulance isn’t even here yet! If anything happens to my mother, I will make you pay!”

Tucked away in a corner, Ophelia started up her live stream again, her eyes glistening with tears. “Don’t worry, everyone. I will stand by you and help protect your rights.”

The second those words left her mouth, Millie lunged forward to tear into her. “Protect our rights? If it wasn’t for you, my jewelry wouldn’t be missing! Stop pretending to be a good person!”

Chad immediately threw himself in front of Ophelia. “Why are you taking your anger out on Ophelia? The person who actually needs to compensate everyone is Patricia!”

I sighed. Me again?

Willow’s eyes darted around, and she instantly joined in on the shouting. “She’s right! Don’t forget, Patricia made her money and bought this place through the furniture business.”

“She understands security systems better than anyone, yet she knew changing the codes would cause problems and didn’t warn a soul! She did it on purpose!”

“If you ask me, she should be liable for every single cent lost!”

Before I could say a word, Mr. Rollins stepped out holding a thick stack of documents. “Everyone,

please calm down. If you want to log your losses, you need to sign this liability waiver first.”

Millie snatched a copy away. After scanning a couple of lines, her face twisted in disbelief, “What do you mean, ‘Owners voluntarily participated in the handover event’? And what is this about “The

losses escalated because Patricia refused to assist’?”

The lobby erupted into pure chaos. Mr. Rollins still tried to force his flawed logic on everyone. “This is just standard procedure. You have to sign it before we can process any claims.”

I looked at him coldly. “So after all this, it’s still my fault? You really bent over backward to dodge your own responsibilities, didn’t you?”

Chad shoved the document right in front of my face. “Mr. Rollins isn’t wrong! You knew this would happen and chose not to warn us. Who else should we blame besides you? Everyone here is watching. Stop being difficult and sign.”

I grabbed the document, ripped it cleanly in half, and slammed it right against his face. “Whoever changed the codes signs it.”

Mr. Rollins looked incredibly displeased. Just as he opened his mouth to speak, a security guard’s angry shout echoed from outside the lobby. “Stop right there! This isn’t a place you get to walk

into.”

A man carrying a canvas sack was dragged out of the elevator bay, yelling at the top of his lungs. “The internet said Building 18 was open for a public tour today! I’ve never been inside a place this nice. What’s wrong with me sleeping here for one night?”

“You invited everyone for a free tour, so what right do you have to stop me!”

Right behind him were two teenagers filming videos on their phones. “We just came here to take some photos. Didn’t Ophelia say this was a special neighborhood romance?”

The young mother’s knees went weak, and she nearly sank to the floor while clutching her baby.

“They just came out of my apartment!”

The crowd in the lobby completely panicked.

Some rushed back to the elevators to check on their apartments, some dialed the police, and others surrounded Ophelia.

“Just how many people did your live stream bring here?”

“If anything happens to my kid, are you going to answer for it?”

Ophelia’s face turned deathly pale, and she could do nothing but shake her head.
