She Mocked My “Useless” Husband Then My Family Ended the Party Chapter 03

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

“Open the damn doors! Clara, are you in there?!”

Every head in the room snapped toward the doors.

My heart slammed against my ribs. Arthur’s people, the crew he kept in Bayport, had found us.

I ripped free from the bodyguards and screamed toward the doors, my voice wrecked.

“I’m in here!”

Relief hit me so hard my knees almost gave out.

“I’m in here! Julian needs help. Please, hurry!”

Something flickered across Chloe’s face, then hardened into a vicious sneer.

“Your little sugar daddy actually showed up? Cute.”

She smoothed the wrinkles from her skirt, lip curling.

“A couple of back-alley goons think they can crash a Thorne event?”

“They’ve got a death wish.”

She snatched up her walkie-talkie, her voice dropping low.

“Security! Response team! I want every guard on the floor. Now!”

“Break their legs. Every last one of them.”

“Full lockdown. Code Red. Seal every door in this building.”

“Nothing gets through. Not a single soul.”Metal security grilles slammed down around the banquet hall, one after another.

The outside world vanished behind steel.

Steel chains locked tight across the mahogany doors.

The muffled sounds of fighting outside, fists and bodies slamming against the entrance, faded to nothing.

Whatever hope I’d felt died behind those grilles.

“No! Open them! Open the doors!”

I threw myself at the grilles, pounding with both fists until my knuckles split.

Blood ran down my wrists. I didn’t feel it.

“He’s dying! Julian is dying!”

“Open the doors!”

A hand closed around the back of my collar. Chloe hauled me off the metal and threw me to the floor.

“Scream louder. Go ahead.”

She stood over me, savoring it.

“See that?”

“That’s your backup? Pathetic.”

“When I lock a door in Bayport, it stays locked. God himself could be on the other side, and he’d still have to wait.”

She pointed at Julian, half-conscious on the floor.

“He’s dying, right?”

“This is your fault.”

“If you’d just gotten on your knees and admitted it from the start, none of this would’ve happened to him.”

“But now? Doors are sealed. Kneeling won’t save him anymore.”

I looked at Julian, his lips dark purple now, and the tears came all at once.

I had never hated anyone like this in my life.

Back in Highcrest, when those catty socialites took shots at me, I’d shrug and laugh it off.

I had four people at my back who made sure no one ever laid a finger on me.I never had to fight. Never had to prove anything.

All I had to do was live my easy, sheltered life.

But now Julian, my Julian, was dying right in front of me.

And I couldn’t do a single thing to stop it.

“Chloe…”

I looked up at her. My voice came out raw, barely human.

“If he dies today, I will bury every last one of you with him.”Chloe let out a sharp, barking laugh.

“Oh no. I’m shaking.”

That’s when Mr. Bates appeared at her side.He was flushed, out of breath, and he leaned in to whisper something in Chloe’s ear.

Chloe’s whole expression changed.

“Felix is here?”

The name hit me like air after drowning.

If he told the truth, that he didn’t know me, that I wasn’t the woman in that photo, this would all be over.

Julian could get to a hospital.

“Felix!”

Chloe rushed to him, her eyes already welling up with fake tears.

“Look what she did. She came to my banquet and started all of this!”

“She even dragged that defective freak along just to humiliate me!”

Felix Mercer scanned the room. His eyes found me.

I dragged myself to my feet and jabbed a finger at the screen.

“Mr. Mercer!”

“Tell her! Tell her you’ve never seen me before in your life!”

“That’s not me in the photo!”
