She Jumps Then Wakes Unhurt While Her Family Bleeds Ten Times Worse Chapter 05
William, Margaret, Nathan, and Callum–all fourÂ
felt as if rusted steel spikes had been drivenÂ
straight into their spines.Â
All four tumbled off their beds and collapsed toÂ
their knees, their heads slamming into the floor.Â
“My back! It’s broken! It’s broken!” Callum clawedÂ
at the ground, leaving streaks of blood behind.Â
Dr. Finch stood there, staring as the four of themÂ
writhed on the floor.Â
The reports slipped from his hands and scattered.Â
The monitors blared as the readings shot up.Â
In that moment, everything he had believed forÂ
thirty years fell apart.Â
Inside the operating room, I felt a faint pressure pushing into my spine.Â
“The first one.” I smiled faintly at the empty air. “Nine more to go. Are you ready?”Â
“Two.” I kept my eyes on the surgical light above.Â
“Ah!” Callum let out a hoarse scream that toreÂ
through the door.Â
“Open the door! Stop this! My back’s broken!” HeÂ
pounded his fists against the metal door.Â
“Three.” I turned my head slightly to look at theÂ
surgeon.Â
His hand shook as he held the bone marrowÂ
needle.Â
“What’s going on out there? Why do they soundÂ
like that?”Â
I cut him off. “You took the money. Do your job. GoÂ
on the fourth needle.“”Â
“Help! My back feels like it’s on fire. Elowen, stop!”Â
Nathan shouted from outside the door.Â
“William! I can’t… it hurts so much…” Margaret letÂ
out a shriek, followed by the dull thud of a bodyÂ
collapsing.Â
“Mom! Mom, wake up!” Maisie screamed.Â
“Forget her! Break the door down! I’m going to killÂ
that quack inside!” Callum’s voice was filled withÂ
desperation.Â
“No! You can’t go in!” Maisie pressed herselfÂ
against the door, blocking it.Â
“Get out of my way! I’m going to die from theÂ
pain!”Â
“Callum, just hold on a little longer, okay? It’sÂ
almost done!” Maisie’s voice trembled with tears.Â
“I’m the one in agony! How the hell am I supposed to deal with this?!” The pounding against the doorÂ
grew weaker.Â
“Didn’t you all say before that taking a little bone marrow wouldn’t kill anyone? That you just had to endure it?” Maisie’s voice suddenly rose.Â
“So why can’t you just endure it–for me?!”Â
Outside, silence fell–for just a moment. Only their heavy breathing and sharp gasps remained.Â
“Five,” I reminded the doctor.Â
“I’m done! I’m not doing this anymore!” He yanked the needle out and stumbled back, knocking overÂ
the tray.Â
“Listen to them out there! If someone dies, myÂ
clinic is finished!”Â
“Ten needles. Or I’ll do it myself.” I picked up a pairÂ
of surgical scissors nearby.Â
“Are you insane? You don’t feel pain?” The doctorÂ
looked at me like I was a monster.Â
“Compared to what they’re feeling, this is nothing.”Â
I pressed the scissors against my wrist.Â
“You stop now, and I’ll open up an artery. Want toÂ
guess what happens to the people outside?”Â
The doctor’s face went pale. Gritting his teeth, heÂ
forced himself to continue.Â
Each time the needle went in, a fresh wave ofÂ
screams erupted from the other side of the door.Â
They were finally getting a taste of what it felt like.Â
-pinned to the chopping block, wishing for death.Â
but unable to die.Â
“Ten.” I looked at the blood bag, now full.Â
The operating room door was kicked open.Â
A middle–aged man in a white coat burst in, out ofÂ
breath–Dr. Brooks, head of the lab at MillbrookÂ
Medical Center.Â
“Stop everything right now! Who authorized thisÂ
procedure!”Â
“This is a private procedure. None of yourÂ
business,” the clinic doctor shot back.Â
“None of your business? The sample data youÂ
sent us is completely fake!” Dr. Brooks pointed atÂ
him.Â
“This bone marrow can’t be used. The donor’sÂ
stem cells have already failed.”Â
“She can barely keep herself alive. How could sheÂ
possibly be a transplant donor!”Â
“If you force a match and keep going, you’re basically killing someone. That’s a crime!” TheÂ
reports hit the floor.Â
Clinging to the doorframe, Callum forced himself to lift his head.Â
“What… did you say? The bone marrow can’t beÂ
used?”Â
“Who signed off on this so–called match report? The data is made up!” Dr. Brooks looked around the room.Â
A dead hush fell over the ward.Â
William hauled himself up against the wall. His gaze crawled over to Maisie.Â
Every pair of eyes in the room locked onto her.
