Chapter 7 Ready to Start a New Life
After waking up the next day, Jessica wandered around the villa like a lost soul.
It had already been a month since Eric left after that humiliating incident at the hospital.
She thought he would come back soon, but a month had passed, and Eric still had not appeared.
At this point, Jessica could no longer deceive herself and keep letting things drag on like this. Like a wild beast that had lost its mate, she searched everywhere for any trace of Eric, but she found nothing.
No matter where she looked, there was no trace of Eric’s existence.
Eric’s belongings had gotten fewer and fewer ever since Callum moved in.
For that reason, everything he left behind in the house was gone for good now.
Jessica sat blankly on the couch, clutching the marriage certificate in her hand. She had already restored the marriage certificate to its original state the day after Eric left.
Even so, she did not expect that their marriage certificate would be the only thing Eric left behind.
As she stared intently at Eric’s name and signature on the marriage certificate, her mind was filled with memories of his voice and smile over the past few years.
Jessica had considered calling Eric, but he blocked her number the day after he left.
In fact, he still didn’t answer even after she called him from a new number.
Even now, she had no idea where he had gone.
With that in mind, she sent a message. “Use all Burke Group’s resources. We must find Eric, no matter what!”
In the days that followed, she stopped going home and stayed at the company instead, frantically searching for any news of Eric.
A month later, her assistant suddenly rushed over anxiously. “Ms. Burke, we have information about your husband!”
Jessica quickly looked up, her eyes filled with joy.
Eric’s POV
After returning to my hometown, I found a beautiful resting place for my parents.
While they were still alive, they always told me that if anything unexpected happened to them, or if they died of
old age, I must lay them to rest in my hometown, so that they could return home.
I originally thought I was as lucky as my parents and had found a partner to spend my life with.
I just didn’t expect Jessica to act so differently between when she loved me and stopped loving me. Indeed, she was wonderful in every way when she was still in love with me.
Yet, when she stopped loving me, or did not love me as much anymore, the way she behaved was absolutely horrifying.
My parents lost their lives because of my wrong decision.
They had only just retired.
They should have been enjoying the rest of their lives in peace. However, they never get to have a proper retirement because of Jessica and me.
At this thought, I sincerely apologized to my parents before their tombstones. At the same time, my hatred for Jessica grew stronger.
Once everything was over, I got ready to find a job and start a new life.
I had kept all the money Jessica had given me in the past, but I did not plan to use it for now. Besides, the reason why I wanted to find a job was to move on from the things that happened in the past and to get over my parents passing as soon as possible.
After leaving, I stopped paying attention to news about the Burke family.
As for the humiliation I had suffered at the hospital in Stroxbert, news of it would never reach this small city.
I had no intention of paying attention to anything related to Jessica anymore.
Unexpectedly, the Burke Group suddenly released my photo and publicly announced that I was their CEO’s husband. They even posted my marriage certificate with Jessica on the company’s official website.
When I saw that photo, I found it ridiculous.
That day at the hospital, when I had asked her to prove my identity, she had chosen Callum and Isabella without hesitation. Now, she was going to such lengths to prove I was her husband.
Unfortunately, it was far too late.
Nonetheless, the news about Callum and Isabella was still kept well in the dark. However, all of that was no longer
my concern.
I thought I would never see Jessica again in this lifetime. To my surprise, I saw her waiting at the gate on my way back from a dinner party.
She stood there, looking more than 10 pounds thinner than she had been a month ago, and her once-fitting dress now hung loose on her.
Although her face was devoid of emotions, her originally delicate features were currently shrouded in an ominous aura, making her look exceptionally terrifying.
I looked away, no longer paying attention to Jessica at the gate. At this moment, all I wanted was to get home as soon as possible.
When I reached the gate, Jessica’s eyes immediately lit up the moment she saw me.
At once, she rushed over and grabbed my arm. “Eric! I’ve… finally found you!” As she spoke, her voice choked slightly.
