Reclaimed My Stage, Left Him Kneeling in the Rain Chapter 09

The adaptive youth dance benefit opened beneath brilliant stage lights.

Children with mobility disabilities performed a flawless group dance using wheelchairs and other mobility aids.

Backstage, I listened to the thunderous applause with tears in my eyes.

The work filled me with satisfaction.

Their chairs and braces were not symbols of tragedy. Onstage, each device became part of the

choreography.

Rhys stood in a dark corner.

He watched me with desperate longing.

I ignored him completely and kept him outside my world.

The backstage door suddenly burst open.

Sienna, disfigured and destitute, broke through security.

She pulled her hat low, her eyes bloodshot, and lunged at me.

“Brynn, are you satisfied?”

She screamed hysterically.

“You ruined me.”

Security officers caught her and forced her to the floor.

Rhys hurried toward the disturbance.

Sienna stared at him as if he were her last chance.

“Please help me.”

She tried to use their past against him.

“Get the story removed from the trending lists and ask the police to show mercy.’

Rhys looked at her without warmth.

“I was blind enough to protect you.”

His voice was flat.

“Brynn paid for that mistake with six years of disability.”

“You deserve to rot in prison.”

The favoritism she expected no longer appeared in his eyes.

Police entered backstage.

“Sienna, the physical evidence and financial records in the razor-blade case are conclusive.”

“You are under arrest for felony aggravated assault.”

They placed handcuffs on her wrists.

Before the officers led her away, Sienna looked back at me with fear and hatred.

I regarded her as calmly as I would an insect on the floor.

I felt neither pleasure nor pity.

Her arrest belonged to the evidence and the law, not to any forgiveness or revenge from me.

After she was gone, Rhys removed a set of documents from his briefcase.

He offered me transfer agreements for all his shares and ownership of his elite dance company.

The note read Compensation for Brynn.

He was trying to purchase forgiveness.

The documents represented everything he had once valued more than my recovery.

I called the finance officer and returned everything.

“I accept properly documented charitable donations.”

“I will not accept a private debt paid with blood.”

After the benefit, heavy rain fell outside.

Rhys followed me from the building.

Without an umbrella, he stood in the downpour and waited.

He was recreating the night I had once waited for him helplessly in the rain.

Back then, I had remained outside because he was comforting Sienna and refused to answer my

calls.

I walked downstairs beneath a black umbrella.

Rhys was soaked.

I stopped in front of him.

“I can run and dance now, and I have a career at the highest level.”

“Your compensation was never about helping me. You simply couldn’t tolerate seeing yourself as the guilty man.’

I removed his final excuse.

Then I took a notarized property-separation agreement from my bag and handed it to him.

“My love was exhausted years ago.’

“There is nothing left between us.”

The notarized agreement confirmed that neither of us retained any claim to the other’s property or

future.

Rhys sank onto the rain-soaked pavement.

His voice was hoarse.

“Is there truly no possibility that we could begin again?”

I gave a quiet laugh.

My answer was gentle and absolute.

“None.”

I turned and walked away without looking back.

Rhys lost his ability to choreograph and became a disgraced shadow of the artist he once was.

The career he sacrificed everything to protect no longer belonged to either of them.

I stood in bright sunlight on my own legs and taught children to dance.

At last, I listened to the voice inside me and understood that I was free.
