Reclaimed My Stage, Left Him Kneeling in the Rain Chapter 06
At the Pacific Neurorehabilitation Institute, I spent an entire day inside a deep-nerve imaging
machine.
Dr. Harris approached with a thick report.
“Ms. Calloway, your leg muscles have been atrophied for too long, and the second injury caused
additional damage.”
“A complete recovery is impossible.”
I nodded calmly.
The doctor continued.
“However, the major deep nerves still show weak electrical responses.”
“With powered-exoskeleton stimulation and an extremely painful nerve-grafting procedure, you may regain the ability to walk independently.”
Adrian stood beside me and slowly explained every medical term.
The treatment could not return the body I had before the blades, but it could give me control over
my own movement again.
The possibility of standing on my own made my heart jump.
I remembered Rhys lying to me six years earlier.
“The doctors said you’ll use a wheelchair forever. I’ll care for you for the rest of my life.”
He had presented dependence as devotion and made a stolen medical choice sound like fate.
Adrian offered me a treatment agreement.
“The rehabilitation foundation will cover every expense.”
I asked why he had made an exception for me.
He pointed to my application.
“The final sentence convinced me.”
“You wrote that if you ever had another chance, you wanted to dance once more on your own legs.”
I read the terms, picked up the pen, and signed.
The signature accepted pain, uncertainty, and a recovery that could never be complete. It also returned the decision about my body to me.
In Briarhaven, Sienna’s comeback showcase resumed as scheduled.
She stood at center stage in an elaborate costume.
Less than ten minutes after the opening, the giant screen behind her went black.
Then it displayed the original security footage from six years earlier.
The video showed Sienna alone backstage.
She hid razor blades inside my shoes and later handed them to me as if nothing had happened,
The audience erupted.
The footage preserved details that Rhys had buried: her glance toward the hallway, the blades in her hand, and the calm way she closed each shoe afterward.
Her crime was exposed in public.
The screen changed again.
An unedited recording from the recent rehearsal filled the venue.
Sienna’s sharp voice echoed through the room.
“You paid the $150,000 disciplinary settlement for me.”
Rhys’s low admission followed.
Everyone heard how he diverted my treatment money.
Sienna turned white and collapsed onstage.
She looked desperately toward Rhys, expecting him to shield her as he had six years earlier.
He sat in the front row.
Rhys watched the footage of my bleeding feet and his own efforts to protect Sienna.
His face looked gray.
He did not move or look at her.
Six years earlier, he had blocked the police and shielded her from every consequence. This time, the evidence played before an audience he could not silence.
The showcase ended in chaos.
Sponsor representatives went onstage and terminated their contracts.
Police arrived and announced that they were reopening the razor-blade assault case.
Sienna’s dream of returning became a public collapse.
The same showcase meant to erase her past had placed the original evidence before the entire
industry.
The next morning, Adrian entered my room with a tablet.
He showed me a headline reporting that every major company and platform had dropped Sienna.
I glanced at it once and pushed the tablet away.
“Don’t put that garbage in front of me again.”
Adrian raised an eyebrow.
“You don’t want the details of how they destroyed each other?”
“Their suffering won’t rebuild the muscles in my legs.”
Knowing that Sienna had fallen did not move my toes or reduce the pain waiting in the therapy
room.
I put all my attention into treatment.
That was where my new life began.
