Reborn Mafia Queen: Ruining My Toxic Family Chapter 08
As I was leaving the asylum, I ran into Albert Falcone.
He looked rough, but he was still in a suit, desperately trying to cling to his last shred of dignity.
“Victoria.”
He blocked my path, his eyes a complicated mix of emotions. “If you hadn’t been so stubborn back then, maybe we wouldn’t have ended up like this.”
“We?”
I raised an eyebrow. “Mr. Falcone, I don’t believe we’re acquainted.”
“I know you still hate me,” Albert said, his voice dripping with fake sincerity. “But I was blinded by Fiona. The truth is, I’ve always had feelings for you. Victoria, I see everything clearly now. Let’s start over. I don’t mind that you’re so powerful. We could be a team. Together, we could unite the entire New York underworld…”
“Pfft.”
I couldn’t help but laugh.
“Albert, do you think every woman on earth is as stupid as you are?”
Unite New York? I could see his pathetic little scheme from a mile away.
“If you’re jealous of my power and status, just say so. Don’t dress it up as ‘true love.’ It’s disgusting.”
I gestured with my hand. My bodyguards stepped forward.
“Mr. Falcone is clearly a man of ambition. Let’s find him a new position. Send him to one of my diamond mines in Africa. I hear they’re looking for a new foreman.”
“Victoria! You can’t do this to me!”
Albert was still shouting as they dragged him away.
Can’t I? I’m the one who makes the rules now.
The last time I saw Fiona was on a rainy night.
She was soaked to the bone, her face bruised, and she threw herself in front of my Rolls-Royce.
“Victoria, you win.”
She stared at me, her eyes filled with poison. “But it’s not fair! Why were you born a princess while I was born a bastard? Why do you get to have everything!”
“I won’t accept it! If I had your life, I would have done so much better!”
I lowered the window and looked at the crazed woman in the rain.
“You’re wrong.”
I said calmly. “You didn’t lose because of your birth.”
“You lost because you are greedy, two-faced, and stupid.”
“You took kindness for granted and twisted generosity into a weapon for your own gain. Your heart is rotten, and your greed is endless.”
“Even if I gave you the world, you wouldn’t know how to keep it.”
“And one more thing.”
I took a coin from my pocket and tossed it into a puddle at her feet.
“A little something for your troubles. Take it and get out of my sight.”
Fiona stared at the single coin, glinting in the rain-soaked street. The sum total of her worth.
She started to tremble, then broke down, sobbing hysterically in the downpour.
I raised the window.
“Drive.”
And so, it was all over.
The Moretti family was a ghost, a thing of the past.
I stood at the top floor of the Volpe headquarters, looking down at the neon-lit city of sin that was now mine.
The system’s voice sounded in my head one last time.
[Congratulations, Host. All main quests have been completed. The Slap-Back System will now unbind.]
[Thank you for your use. May the rest of your life be free, lived on your own terms. All hail the Queen.]
The voice in my head was gone.
But I knew that even without the system, I already had all the power I would ever need.
I was no longer the pathetic girl who begged for scraps of affection.
I am Don Victoria. The queen of my own destiny.
My phone rang.
It was my assistant. “Donna, several family heads wish to have an audience with you tonight…”
“Cancel it.”
I looked out at the night sky and stretched.
“Tonight, I’m going to a Michelin-star restaurant. Then I’m going to see a movie.”
“Oh, and book me a flight to Iceland. I want to see the Northern Lights.”
“As you wish, Donna.”
I hung up the phone.
I looked at my reflection in the glass and smiled.
This is the life.
This whole ‘mafia queen’ gig? I fucking love it.
