Reader Comments Exposed The Don’s Secret Desire Chapter 10

I explained the risks of the drug trial to Lilith.

She was firm. For the sake of breaking free from Red Thorn’s control, she was willing to take them.

Lilith added that she wasn’t the only one. She had found a support group full of people whose bodies had changed after being pricked by Red Thorn.

Some enjoyed the effects. Most found it ruined their lives and wanted a cure.

They had tried every hospital and medication with no success.

She offered to ask the group members if they wanted to join the trials.

I told her I would discuss it with my lab team first. Once we confirmed the new agent was safe with no side effects, I would contact her.

“Make sure you get rid of that Red Thorn plant when you get home,” I reminded her. “Don’t get pricked again.”

“Okay.” Lilith nodded.

She pulled out a cute little box of teddy bear cookies and handed it to me.

“I’m really sorry about knocking over your cookies last time, Cressida.”

“These are homemade. Please try them.”

My heart warmed. This was exactly the Lilith I remembered. She didn’t seem to harbor any ill

intentions.

I took one. It was crisp and delicious. “These are really good.”

Her eyes sparkled as she looked at me. “Oh, I have a date with my boyfriend for sea fishing. He’ll be here soon. I should go if that’s okay?”

“Sure.” I waved goodbye and watched her leave.

I always felt Lilith was open and generous. When she mentioned her boyfriend, it didn’t sound like a taunt. It felt completely unrelated to me.

Lilith walked a few steps, then turned back.

She said softly, “Actually, you know my boyfriend.”

My heart tightened.

Then she continued, “It’s Falcone. He’s been helping me through everything these past six months… and he was even the one who helped me find this job. I don’t know whether any of this might cause trouble for him, so I wanted to let you know in advance. Donna, you’re such a kind

person.”

My mind buzzed.

Her boyfriend was Falcone.

So the man who had forcefully kissed her in the secretary’s office that day was Falcone?

The fog in my heart finally cleared.

I smiled and nodded. “Lilith, thank you for telling me. Go on, don’t keep your boyfriend waiting.”

Lilith waved. “Okay, bye, Cressida. I’ll wait for your call!”

[Brain short-circuiting…]

[Now Cressida knows everything.]

[Lilith is a bit naive. Even if Falcone is her boyfriend now, they might break up later.]

[She should have cut off any chance between Cress and Damian. Damian will be hers eventually.)

[Now that she told the truth, Cress and Damian probably won’t divorce.]

[Is Cress going to become Damian’s true love?]

[What do you mean “become”? Damian has always liked Cress.]

[Their marriage problems were never about Lilith. At the end of the day, it’s because they’re fundamentally incompatible and their married life was never harmonious.)

[If Damian spent his life with her, it would be too suffocating.]

[Did you forget the lipstick mark on Damian’s neck?]

[Even without Lilith, Damian probably has some other woman staying at that riverside estate.]

By the time I ate the third teddy bear cookie, Damian appeared outside the coffee shop.

He was walking alone and didn’t see me.

This time, I stood up and walked toward him.

Damian heard footsteps and turned around.

He froze. His gaze locked onto me and refused to move.

“Cressida, what are you doing here?”

I stopped in front of him and said honestly, “I came to meet Lilith about the research.”

Damian nodded. “She and Falcone live nearby.”

I took the chance to ask, “The butler said you haven’t been staying at the main house lately?”

Damian stepped closer, voice low. “Do you know why I don’t want to go home?”

I asked nervously, “Why?”

“Because…” He fought to hide the pain in his eyes. “The house is full of your scent and your presence. I’m afraid I won’t be able to control myself.”

So that was the reason.

His words brushed lightly across my heart like a feather.

I wanted to say, Damian, let’s not get divorced, okay?

But what came out was, “Damian, how far has the divorce process gone?”

I pressed my lips together, annoyed at my clumsy words.

I had only wanted to test how he felt about the divorce.

Damian misunderstood. His eyes darkened. He said firmly, “There is no process, Cressida. I never

wanted to divorce you.”

Joy bloomed inside me, but I tried not to show it.

“Then why did you make me sign the papers?”

Damian took my hand and softened his voice. “The divorce papers need both signatures. You

signed, but I didn’t, so they’re invalid.”

“Cressida, it was my fault.”

“Let’s never mention divorce again, okay?”

I answered without hesitation, “Okay. We won’t mention it anymore.”

Damian pulled me into his arms.

He whispered in my ear, “I’ve thought a lot these past few days.”

“It was me… I didn’t consider your feelings.”

“I can change. As long as you don’t want it, I’ll hold back.”

“Even if it’s for a lifetime, I’m willing.”

Reader comments went wild:

[Wait, Damian, you just talked yourself out of it?]

[Hold back for a lifetime? Suppress your desires?]

[Everyone has desires. You need to face it.]

[It’s not your fault. Cressida is the one who needs to change.]

[You people are overthinking this. Marriage only works when husband and wife communicate and work things out together.]

I hugged him back. “Damian, I can change too. Just give me some time, okay?”

Damian kissed my forehead tenderly.

“Okay. Don’t put pressure on yourself. Take it slow.”

“As long as you don’t push me away, I can wait as long as it takes.”
