Reader Comments Exposed The Don’s Secret Desire Chapter 02

An hour later, Damian carried me out of the bathroom and laid me gently on the bed.

My entire body felt so exhausted it was like I was lying on a cloud.

“Night,” I murmured tiredly.

He stroked my cheek. “Already sleepy?”

“Yeah. I drove back from the mountain today. I’m wiped. You should sleep too.”

Damian looked at me for a long moment, clearly wanting to say something, yet holding back.

He finally replied with a mix of affection and disappointment. “Alright. Sleep first.”

I closed my eyes so I wouldn’t see the hunger still burning in his gaze.

I’d already been pretty proactive tonight.

That should be enough, right?

Reader comments popped up:

[Cress seriously underestimates Damian’s stamina? Haha.]

[That was just Damian warming up.]

[He was ready for a marathon, but Cress already hit the finish line?]

[If Damian had married a seductive wife, tonight would’ve been a total feast.]

[What a waste. A man as intense as Damian ended up with an ice-cold wife.]

[Cressida stays up in the mountains for half a month at a time.]

[Damian always has to drive out there to find her.]

[Even then, work always comes first.]

[She buries herself in the lab and leaves him waiting in the courtyard.]

[She rejects him the second she feels tired.]

[When she’s busy, she can ignore him for three whole months.]

[The only time she remembers Damian is when it’s time to sign off on the quarterly accounts.]

[If I were Damian, I’d divorce her too.]

[Cress, don’t fall asleep! Damian’s still full of energy.]

I didn’t want to deal with the comments anymore. I closed my eyes.

That one hour in the bathroom had been more than enough for me.

I had zero strength left to keep going with Damian until dawn.

I told myself I’d make it up to him after some sleep.

That thought eased the guilt in my chest a little.

I passed out the second my head hit the pillow.

In my half-asleep state, I felt a large hand tuck the blanket around me.

I rolled over and kept sleeping.

Damian stared at my sleeping face for a long time.

Then I heard him say, “Cressida, let’s get a divorce.”

I opened my eyes and looked at him.

His expression was dark and heavy. He had clearly made up his mind.

I’d already learned about it from the reader comments, so I wasn’t particularly surprised. I rubbed my eyes and asked calmly, “Can we talk about it tomorrow?”

Disappointment deepened on Damian’s face.

“Fine.” He stood up and headed to the study.

Reader comments exploded:

[OMG, Cress has no heart.]

[Damian brings up divorce and she says tomorrow?]

[That attitude screams she can’t wait to get rid of him.]

[She might as well have “I don’t care” written on her face.]

[Damian must be crushed right now.]

[Their marriage was always just an alliance anyway. He never loved her.]

[After the divorce, Damian’s destined wife will finally satisfy him.]

[The sooner he divorces her, the sooner he meets his true love.]

The comments were twisting my words.

I did care.

Last night, I’d been running experiments in the lab. I didn’t get back to my cottage until six in the morning and had only slept four hours before Hollis called to wake me up.

We were studying a special vine. When pricked, the blood that came out turned pale blue. Their entire body would burn with unbearable heat, as though they’d taken a powerful aphrodisiac. It was addictive too—people wanted to prick themselves again. After repeated exposure, a person’s nervous system would undergo irreversible alteration.

We gave it the scientific name Aculeus desiderii. In everyday conversation, we called it Red Thorn.

We didn’t know how many people had been affected. Our current project focused on extracting the unique compounds found in Red Thorn and developing an antidote.

Hollis said he had a major breakthrough, so I rushed back to the lab and dove straight into experiments.

I didn’t drive back to the estate until six in the evening. After dinner, I continued working in the study.

The fact that I hadn’t fallen asleep in the bathroom was already a miracle. Right then, even the sky falling wouldn’t have stopped me from going to sleep.

Reader comments:

[I have to admit, Cressida’s career drive is a good thing.]

[But what Damian needs is a wife who can provide emotional support and satisfy his desires.]

[They’re simply not compatible.]

[This alliance is dragging both of them down.]

[Damian is sick of being ignored and neglected.]

[He’s already drafting the divorce papers in the study.]

[Let Cressida spend her life with her lab.]

I even dreamed about experiments.

I was just about to isolate Red Thorn’s key compound when the laboratory door slowly creaked open.

A group of mafia members sent by Damian shut off the equipment and dragged me and the rest of the research team out of the lab.

“Ma’am, Don Lucchesi is taking back the mountain. The lab will be sealed. You have three days to move out.”

The scene shifted.

I clung to Damian’s leg. “No, Damian! Please don’t divorce me. Don’t take the lab!”

Dream Damian threw the divorce papers in my face and said coldly, “No.”
