Never Meant to Be Together Chapter 05
[Wylie Lane, two weeks pregnant. Intrauterine pregnancy. Accidental miscarriage.]
Rowan’s eyes were locked onto those words.
For a moment, the world spun around him. He nearly lost his balance.
“Wylie was pregnant? So the blood on the floor was…”
Charles stepped closer and saw the report. His face instantly turned pale.
Sandy froze as well when she heard that.
She lowered her head and stared at the large patch of dark red blood on the floor that had not yet dried. Her hands began trembling uncontrollably.
Had she just killed an innocent child?
The person she had hurt was not only her best friend, but her husband’s sister.
“I-I was just too anxious. Who wouldn’t panic when a newborn baby goes missing?
“Why didn’t she tell us she was pregnant? No, that’s impossible! She’s a doctor. She wouldn’t have had an accident like that. This report must be fake. She must have made it up to trick us!”
When the topic turned back to the baby, Vivian instinctively glanced at Charles. There was a trace of guilt in her
eyes.
She forced herself to agree. “That’s right. Dr. Lane is such a skilled doctor. She couldn’t have had an accident like
that.
“Let’s go to the hospital and check on her first.”
As she spoke, she quietly reached out her hand while everyone was turning away.
She tried to take the USB drive sitting on the table.
However, Rowan, who had finally recovered from the shock, caught her movement.
Having once suffered cardiac arrest and been saved by a defibrillator himself, he understood better than anyone what it felt like to have electricity tear through one’s body.
He knew clearly that the miscarriage report Wylie left behind was real.
He also knew exactly what someone like Wylie would do after being misunderstood and humiliated by everyone she trusted.
The next second, he snatched the USB drive from Vivian’s hand and inserted it into the computer.
“Rowan, don’t.”
Vivian’s expression changed instantly. She reached out to stop him. Still, it was already too late.
Charles, realizing what was about to happen, suddenly raised his voice. His panic was obvious.
“Rowan, don’t watch the video…”
The USB drive contained only one video.
It was footage I asked a police officer friend to retrieve after my uterine evacuation surgery.
The truth could have been discovered simply by checking the surveillance footage and calling the police.
However, they had firmly believed that I was capable of going insane and hurting a child.
They would rather believe I was guilty than believe I was innocent.
No one knew how cold and furious I felt after obtaining the surveillance footage and learning the entire truth.
“What is this?
“What did you do behind my back?!”
The moment the video began playing, Sandy’s eyes turned red. She looked like she was about to break down.
Her entire body trembled uncontrollably.
The surveillance footage clearly showed the entire process of how the baby disappeared.
The most ironic part was that I was never involved in the baby’s disappearance.
It was Vivian and Charles!
