My Mistress Ordered My Funeral While I Was Still Alive Chapter 02
A man with a status like that.
Those words dragged me back to the absolute beginning.
Back then, Harrison wasn’t that kind of man.
We met in college, fell in love, and shared everything.
But I came from a normal, working-class background, and he belonged to a ruthless billionaire dynasty.
We tried to ignore the gap, but as graduation approached, the pressure from his family became a suffocating wall.
Terrified of dragging him down, I tried to break up with him multiple times.
Instead, on my birthday, he drove me straight to City Hall.
When we stepped out onto the concrete steps, he dropped to one knee.
He swore I was the only woman he would ever love.
But there was no wedding. No public announcement.
His uncles were watching his every move, waiting for a slip-up.
He begged me to wait until he had total control over The Sterling Group before he introduced me to the world.
I believed him.
Through four years of this secret elopement, I truly thought he was shielding me.
I never guessed that the shield was actually a blindfold, keeping me from seeing the mistress he was bringing into the light.
Amber kept talking.
“I ran a background check on her.”
“Met in college, had a secret elopement, kept it completely underground.”
“Let’s be real, she was kept in the dark because she wasn’t good enough.”
She picked up the Mock Memorial Plaque, weighing it in her hand.
“Even though she’s an embarrassment, Harrison still babies her.”
“He keeps saying she just miscarried, that her mental state is fragile, that she can’t handle any stress.”
“Well, what about my stress? Who cares about me?”
I looked at her.
“Is that why you came to an Estate Clearout Specialist?”
Amber nodded.
“I’m done waiting.”
“Since she won’t leave willingly, I’m using the rules of the dead to push her out.”
“The psychic said once her things are reduced to ashes and this plaque is dedicated, Harrison will erase her from his mind entirely.”
She glanced down at the photo of the baby onesies.
“We burn the unborn brat’s memories too.”
“So it stops haunting my life and blocking the Sterling heir.”
My nails dug so deep into my palms that it drew blood, but Amber didn’t notice a thing.
Assuming I was just intimidated by her wealth, she leaned back against the chair with a smug smile.
“So, honey. Do you want the job or not?”
I reached out and slowly pushed the black card an inch closer to her.
“I’ll take it.”
My voice came out steadier than I expected.
“But I need the full story. Handling the effects of a living person requires absolute clarity.”
Amber pouted, annoyed by the bureaucracy.
“Fine. What else do you want to know?”
I pointed directly at the ultrasound photo.
“The hotel night.”
“Oh, that.”
The smirk faded from Amber’s face for a split second, but she quickly tossed her hair back.
“Honestly, I have to give her credit. After what happened, she still walked around acting like a saint.”
I gripped my pen tighter.
“What exactly happened?”
Amber dragged out her words.
“It was during the elder Sterling uncle’s gala. She tagged along with Harrison, pretending to be his personal assistant because she couldn’t be public.”
“Halfway through the night, she vanished.”
“When they finally found her, she was upstairs in a private suite.”
She paused, her eyes widening with malicious delight.
“Her clothes were torn. The bed was a total disaster.”
“And there was a man in the room with her. You can imagine the rest…”
The temperature in my body plummeted.
That night, I had only taken a single sip of wine.
When I woke up, my head felt like it was splitting open from the inside out.
The suite door was deadbolted from the inside, and a completely unconscious stranger was slumped on the carpet near the bed.
I had been too paralyzed by terror to even scream.
When Harrison burst through the door, his face was deathly pale.
He didn’t even ask what happened. He just ripped off his coat, wrapped it tightly around my shaking body, and pulled me against his chest.
“Evelyn, are you hurt?”
I shook my head through the tears, telling him I didn’t know anything, that I swear I had no idea what was going on.
He told me he believed me.
“Harrison investigated it later.”
Amber added, her tone light and uncaring.
“Turns out the guy was a plant from a rival company trying to destroy the uncle. They aimed for Harrison but used her as a pawn instead.”
“But get this.”
She arched a perfectly drawn eyebrow.
“Right after she came back from that nightmare, she tested positive for the pregnancy.”
