My Husband Said I Was Fake So I’d Learn To Be Obedient Chapter 10

After that day,Adrian did not show up again for a long time.

Just when I thought he would never agree to the divorce and I was preparing to take the case to court,my lawyer suddenly called and told me Adrian had agreed.

As it turned out, Adrian had accidentally discovered that the child Chloe gave birth to was not his.

After learning the truth, Adrian went almost mad and smashed everything in the house. Then, with ruthless efficiency, he had Chloe, who had already left Silverlake City, dragged back.

As for what happened after that, no one knew.

Adrian had always been a cold man.

He had been able to turn me into the mistress everyone in our circle despised with almost no effort. Naturally, he could ruin Chloe’s entire life just as easily.

The day our divorce was finalized, the sky was clear.
Adrian walked away with nothing.

Every cent in his accounts, along with several properties and company shares, was transferred to my name. He kept nothing.

When I came out of the courthouse, Adrian was waiting for me at the bottom of the steps.

He held the divorce decree in his hand and asked in a low voice, “Evie, will we ever see each other again?”

I put my copy of the decree into my bag and zipped it shut, feeling lighter than I had in years.

“Adrian, we’re both adults. Don’t say things that don’t mean anything.”

He flinched slightly. With red-rimmed eyes,he looked at me one last time.

“I’m sorry.”

“I hope you live well… and find peace.”

I did not answer. I turned toward the curb and hailed a cab.

Some roads, once they ended, were not meant to be walked again.
After the divorce, my life slowly returned to order.

I sold every property Adrian had given me.

With that money, I founded a nonprofit dedicated to providing legal and psychological support for women who had suffered domestic violence or injustice.

I was busier than I had ever been, but for the first time in years, I also felt fulfilled.

Six months later, I saw Chloe at a charity event.

She was wearing an old coat faded from too many washes. Her hair was messy, her face sallow, and the polished arroganoe she had shown half a year ago was gone.

The moment she saw me, she dropped to her knees in front of everyone.

Reporters and passersby stopped and turned to look.

“Evie! Please, I’m begging you. Help me!”

She cried as she reached for the hem of my pants, but I took a step back and avoided her hand.

“Adrian won’t support us anymore. He gave you all the money!”
“My parents’ company went bankrupt, and we owe so much debt. People come to our door every day demanding payment.”

She sobbed until she looked utterly pathetic.

“Evie, I know you have the money now. You’re kind. For the sake of the parents who raised you for more than twenty years, please just give us something. Otherwise,we really won’t survive.”

The people around us began whispering.

I stood there calmly and had the evidence I had collected displayed on the big screen. It showed, piece by piece, how my parents had favored Chloe and how Chloe had bullied me from childhood to adulthood.

I had known this day would come.

The parents who had never treated me like their own daughter would come looking for me eventually.

Facing the cameras,I remained completely composed.

“I will not help them. Not today. Not ever.”

“They do not deserve it.”
As applause broke out around us, Chloe’s face slowly turned pale. She scrambled to her feet in a panic and disappeared into the crowd.

Three years later.

My nonprofit had become one of the most
influential women’s rights organizations in the country.

I was invited to an international charity gala.

The ballroom was bright with glittering lights, filled with celebrities, executives, and old-money
families.

Wearing a simple white gown, I moved through the crowd with ease.

“Ms.Bennett.”

A voice I knew,yet barely recognized anymore,sounded behind me.

I turned around.

It was Adrian.

I did not avoid him. I only nodded calmly.

His voice trembled slightly.”Are you…are you doing well?”
“I’m doing fine,” I answered.

His lips moved, as if he wanted to ask something else, but I had already turned and walked onto the stage.

I did not spare him another glance.

The last glow of sunset spilled through the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting warm light across the room.

It was another beautiful evening.
