My Husband Bought Her Snacks But Not My Mom A Ticket Chapter 06

My Husband Bought Her Snacks But Not My Mom A Ticket Chapter 06

I stretched lazily. Life was pretty good now.

No cooking. No laundry. Someone taking care

of me.

And most importantlyno strangers barging

in and telling us to get out.

On my way to work, Gavin called again.

I was driving, so I didn’t pick up.

But when I parked at the office, he was waiting for me at the gate.

I checked my watch. Annoying. I’m about to

be late.”

Are you working?”

He blinked, then let go of my wrist. Didn’t answer my question. Just said quietly, I’ll wait

outside. Let’s have lunch together.”

Okay.”

So he waited four more hours.

At the restaurant, he just stared at me.

It was hard to tell if he was being sarcastic or

genuine. Then he said, You look pretty good.”

I nodded. Yeah.”

At least I wasn’t fighting anymore. Sleeping better too.

Six months ago, I couldn’t have imagined a life like this.

When are you coming home?”

My brow furrowed. But before I could speak, Gavin added, Brenda won’t be coming back. I

found her a place these last few days. Amber’s all

settled too.”

I understood. He wouldn’t have come looking

for me until they were taken care of.

But he could’ve done it so fast. Yet he let me

suffer for months.

When I didn’t respond, Gavin assumed I

agreed.

He smiled, tired and almost pitiful. Suddenly grabbed my hand.

You’ve been so moody lately, running away from home. I don’t know what to do with you

anymore.”

Let’s get a divorce.”

Pain shot through my palm. His nails dug in.

His pupils shrank. Why?”

Because I don’t want to live like this

anymore.”

He seemed to know what I meant. Panic crept

into his voice. There’s nothing going on between

me and Amber. She’s like a sister to me.”

The only reason I take care of Brenda is

because”

His face twisted.

Because I grew up without a mom. My dad

didn’t give a damn about me. Brenda was the one

who brought me food all the time.”

She practically treated me like a son.”

Back then, she wanted me to marry Amber.

But then I met youSo I’ve always felt guilty.,

He squeezed my hand tighter. You have to

believe me. Amber and I are nothing.”

I pulled my hand back. My voice stayed calm. That doesn’t matter anymore.”

Yes, it does!”

Just tell me. What’s really bothering you?”

His phone rang. Amber’s special ringtone.

He hesitated. Then answered.

I don’t know what she said, but his face went

dark. Right now?”

A sob came through the speaker. Small and

pitiful.

Gavin shot to his feet. Okay. Wait for me.”

He hung up, looked at me for two seconds, and forced out the words: She got into a car

accidentI”

Okay. Go.”

I didn’t argue.

I stood up to leave. Gavin panicked and

grabbed my arm.

You don’t want me to go, do you? I don’t have

a choice. She doesn’t know anyone else in this

city. I can’t just leave her.”

He’d said this so many times.

On our anniversaries. On my birthdays. On all the nights I actually needed him.

But I’d already figured it out. You can’t wake someone who’s pretending to be asleep.

Tomorrow morning. County Clerk’s Office.”

His face flickered with conflict, like he was genuinely worried about Amber.

Don’t overthink this. I’ll explain everything

when I get back.”

Then he left without looking back.

After he was gone, I sat back down and

slowly finished the dessert I hadn’t touched.

Without him around, my appetite was

definitely better.

After work, I went home like always. My mom had made a whole table of food. All my favorites.

I was starving. Reached for the food without

washing my hands.

She snatched the fork away and shoved me

toward the bathroom. You dirty girl! Wash your

hands first!”

I giggled and did what she said.

But after dinner, I saw her packed suitcase.

She noticed me looking and explained with a

smile, I kinda left in a hurry this time. I’ve got chickens and a dog back home. They’ll starve if I

don’t get back.”

My chest ached again. I opened my mouth,

but she kept going.

I get it. From now on, whenever I miss you, I’ll come stay for a while. This is my daughter’s

house. I can do whatever I want.”

She said it softly, but her voice was steady.

I relaxed and pulled her into a hug.

That night, we slept in the same bed. She

talked to me for hours.

But she never mentioned Gavin.
