My Cruel Bestie Mocked Me to Please His Muse, Unaware I Was Flying to Harvard with a True Genius Chapter 09
Zach called my name, his voice hoarse.
But I didn’t look back. I didn’t have to.
I just clutched my acceptance letter, felt the warm breeze on my cheeks, and walked with light steps – my heart lighter than ever.
Zach, I’m so glad our story is finally over.
From now on, when people mention me, they’ll only talk about Sophie – the top student.
Not that shameless, clingy nuisance.
Zach, you’ve only ever brought me trouble.
And now all those bad things, and you – I don’t want any of it.
I didn’t go home for three days.
I went to every park and playground in the Boston area, as if making up for all the fun I’d missed while
preparing for the exams.
“Where’s Sophie?”
The day I came back, I ran into Zach looking everywhere for me.
He asked every classmate he saw. He asked every neighbor he knew.
When he came running toward me in a rage, he saw Kevin and me out shopping.
Our dads had agreed – since we both got into the same school, we’d have a joint graduation party.
When Zach saw us together, his eyes turned red with fury, and he punched Kevin in the face.
“Why is it always you? You bastard – deliberately getting close to Sophie – you’re up to no good. Get lost.”
Kevin ducked deftly. He pushed up his glasses and smiled meaningfully.
“Is Sophie your girlfriend?”
Zach glanced at me and instinctively shook his head. “No.”
“Then do you own the ocean or something? Why are you so nosy?”
Zach was speechless. He just stared at us, his eyes bloodshot.
“Kevin Walker – you’re that Kevin, aren’t you? Are you the one stirring up trouble behind our backs? Are you the reason Sophie and I are growing apart? Was it you who got close to her while we were in a cold war? I’ll
beat you to death, you bastard.”
Just as they were about to come to blows, I stepped forward with a cold expression and shielded Kevin.
“Zach, are you done causing trouble?”
He looked at me like a wounded beast. “Sophie – are you actually taking his side?”
“So what if I am? He’s my friend.” I spoke calmly, choosing my words carefully. “And you – you’ve been a bad influence on me. I hope this is the end of it. Otherwise, if it comes to calling the police, it’ll be embarrassing for everyone.”
Zach’s face was ashen, his lips trembling violently. Tears even glistened in his eyes.
“Sophie, how could you say something like that? Didn’t we grow up together? Didn’t you say you’d be with me forever? You’re a liar.”
But I took Kevin’s hand right in front of him. “Let’s go.”
Perhaps at that moment – Zach finally realized he had truly lost me.
The day Jasmine received her acceptance letter from Boston University, she danced with joy and posted in
the class group that she wanted to celebrate with Zach.
But the moment she sent it, Zach – behind her – tore the letter to shreds.
“Ah! Zach, what are you doing?” Jasmine screamed. “That’s your acceptance letter – why did you tear it up?
Are you crazy?”
