My Bestie Used My Photo to Catfish a Man—She Never Knew He Was My Boss Chapter 02

My Bestie Used My Photo to Catfish a Man—She Never Knew He Was My Boss Chapter 02

I sucked in a sharp breath. Okay, well… as awkward as this was, money mattered more. Good bosses were hard to come by these days.

I steeled myself, but my legs felt like lead. I don’t even remember walking back to the estate.

If he asks… I’ll say someone stole my photos. But who’d believe someone who looks like me would get her photo stolen? Maybe I should just quit.

I paced outside his study for what felt like forever. The door swung open before I could knock. I snapped my head down, avoiding eye contact.

After a long pause, Adrian Sterling finally spoke, his tone serious. “Iris. Are you unhappy with your salary?”

Huh? That question threw me completely. Did my boss misunderstand something?

I was about to wave my hands in denial, but the temptation was too strong. Before I could react, Adrian’s face showed understanding. His expression was as cold as ever, but the corner of his mouth twitched

slightly.

“You do good work, Iris. Starting next month, I’m adding five hundred to your pay.”

I nodded frantically, terrified he’d change his mind. “Thank you, Mr. Sterling. That’s-thank you so much.”

He nodded and looked back down at his papers. It was a blazing summer day, but I had goosebumps all over. Damn, rich people really do keep the AC freezing.

Now I needed to hurry up and add Adrian on my burner account. At this point, I had no choice but to play out

this ridiculous charade.

I rushed to leave, forgetting to even close the door. Just as I turned, a low voice came from behind.

“Next time, just tell me what’s going on. Come back inside.”

I shuffled back obediently. Adrian stared at my face until I felt it burning. “I might need you to work late

tonight.”

I instinctively deflected, eyes darting away. “Mr. Sterling, my friend asked me to meet up for dinner… let me

tell her.”

“The mall next door? I have something to do there. You can drive me.”

I opened my mouth, then closed it.

He’d shut down every excuse,

The whole drive, I couldn’t stop spacing out. Through the rearview mirror, Adrian wore a simple

custom-tailored shirt I knew that perfect minimalist cut wasn’t cheap.

But at a glance, he could’ve passed for some gorgeous grad student-young, clean-cut. Either way, completely out of my league.

After parking, I stepped out of the underground garage. In the distance, a familiar figure. My blood ran cold. I instinctively wanted to hide.

But before I could move, Lauren spotted me. She waved with a bright smile. “Iris, over here!”

I forced myself forward with a stiff smile. Adrian stood beside me, looking thoughtful. He raised an eyebrow and asked, “I didn’t know your friend was so beautiful.”

That’s when Lauren noticed the man next to me. She froze completely. She seemed to catch herself, then extended a hand gracefully. “I’m Iris’s friend. And you are…?”

She shot me a weird look. Adrian smiled, but didn’t shake her hand. “I’m Iris’s boyfriend.”

And just like that, I lost it.
