My Best Friend Stole an Heir, So I Cleared House as the Lawful Wife Chapter 09
“I knew Damian first. You stole my place. If you had never shown up, he would have fallen in love
with me.”
Before she could finish, Damian cut her off.
“No. I fell for Olivia the first time I saw her. I wanted her contact information, but someone gave me
the wrong number.”
He looked at me with helpless regret.
“The moment I realized you weren’t her, I cut contact with you. How was I supposed to know you
two would later become best friends?”
I looked at Vera on the floor. Only then did I understand why she had clung to me so shamelessly
back then. From the beginning, she had come near me with a purpose. Vera’s face twisted with
hatred.
“I don’t believe it. After Olivia met you, she still went out alone with other men. She has no shame.
She only used her face to climb into high society.”
I stared at her, almost speechless.
“Did it ever occur to you that I was doing research with my senior lab partners?”
Damian had no patience left. He waved for the soldiers to take her away. Vera clung to the
doorframe and screamed at him until her voice tore.
“Noah is dying. The doctor said he has a year left at most. Are you really cruel enough to abandon
our child? I came to you today because I wanted an answer. No matter what, your blood runs in his body too.”
When Damian heard that, his whole body went tight. He looked ready to throw Vera out himself. I
reached out and stopped him. After thinking it through, I spoke to Vera.
\ “Damian and I can cover Noah’s future medical expenses. He is innocent.”
Damian’s eyes widened. He clearly did not understand my decision. But to me, a child was a child.
Vera was Vera. During her pregnancy, Vera had drunk so many strange so-called remedies just to fight for the inheritance. She had probably damaged Noah’s body long ago. Vera gritted her teeth.
“Stop pretending to be kind. You’re playing saint now so everyone will think I’m evil, right?”
I had never been generous to my enemies. Mercy was for the innocent, not Vera. I raised my head
and smiled at her.
“As for you…”
I shook my phone.
“The detectives should be at the door by now. What you’ve done is enough to keep you in prison for years. Use that time to think. And stop using motherhood, morality, and Moretti blood as excuses for wicked things.”
As soon as I finished, the detectives walked in. Vera shook her head wildly, but nothing changed the fact that she was being taken away. I looked at the nurse standing to the side while her wound was
treated. I smiled.
“What’s your name?”
The nurse froze for a second, then answered carefully, “Ella Jensen.” I nodded.
“Good name.”
Then I spoke as if I were discussing the weather.
“Because of you, Vera failed to hurt my children. Five hundred thousand dollars a month. From now on, you will be my children’s private nanny and household aide. You report directly to me.”
Ella’s face lit up at once.
“Really?”
I smiled.
“Of course. After I leave the hospital, go straight to the estate and report for duty. For the next few days, stay here and take care of me.”
