My Best Friend Had a Baby to Inherit Riches, I Exposed Her Chapter 02
The funeral home was packed with people shifting restlessly, their eyes darting between Abby and me.
This was the inheritance of the world’s richest man, after all. Anyone would kill for it.
Whoever grabbed it would skyrocket to the top of the world.
“This is a funeral parlor, what is all this racket?”
Garrett’s father strode in, his harsh face softening the moment he saw Abby.
He put on a flawless mask of paternal benevolence.
“Abby, you’re here. The lawyer is on his way to officially announce the heir.”
“Drink this. It’s a freshly prepared premium organic bone broth.”
“Yes, exactly! You are the greatest hero of our family, you need to nourish your body.”
“Once the inheritance is transferred, we’ll check you into a luxury post-natal wellness retreat for half a year.”
Garrett’s mother eagerly scooped up the bone broth, forcing the spoon toward Abby’s lips.
Watching the three of them look like a perfect, harmonious family made my eyes burn.
“Mr. and Mrs. Sterling, let’s not forget I haven’t divorced Garrett yet.”
“Aren’t you spiking the ball before reaching the endzone? Are you really that sure she can claim Old Mr. Sterling’s estate?”
Abby choked, nearly spitting out the bone broth.
She shoved Garrett’s parents aside, clutching the baby tight, glaring at me while rocking him.
“So what if you’re married? The Sterling family will never accept an infertile tramp.”
“Who knows what you were doing staying out until ten every night? You’re probably too damaged to conceive anyway.”
“When my son grows up, he will never marry a woman with such a trashy personal life.”
Garrett’s mother helped Abby sit down, sneering at me.
“This boy is definitely a Sterling. He looks identical to Garrett when he was a baby.”
Abby’s smugness flared up again.
“Audrey, I get that it hurts to see me have Garrett’s son.”
“But lying through your teeth like this? Has your barrenness actually driven you mad?”
Every word out of her mouth was a baseless slander.
Yet, it successfully triggered the distant Sterling relatives in the room.
“Garrett married a woman with a trashy past? No wonder she couldn’t get pregnant.”
“Thank God Abby had a son, otherwise the family lineage would be broken.”
“Wait, Audrey sounds so certain. Could the baby actually belong to someone else?”
Abby’s eyes instantly welled with tears. She grabbed Garrett’s mother’s arm, acting utterly victimized.
“Mom, you can see the truth just by looking at him.”
“I know everyone just wants what’s best for Garrett.”
“If anyone doubts me, I’ll take Toby for another DNA test right now.”
Her face was a picture of pure heartbreak, looking as if she would break down crying at any second.
Garrett’s mother’s face contorted with protective rage, her voice booming through the hall.
“I dare anyone to put my grandson through that misery again!”
“Look at his eyes, his nose! He is the spitting image of a young Garrett! If he isn’t our flesh and blood, whose could he be?”
“You don’t need to test us, Audrey. The Sterling family claims this boy!”
Looking at Garrett’s mother’s twisted, furious face, a sharp pang hit my chest.
She used to be so warm to me, always smiling, always kind.
I had loved her like my own mother.
Now, under Abby’s manipulation, her eyes held nothing but pure hatred for me.
Garrett’s father finally lost his patience, waving over the security guards to drag me out.
“Your petty words made Abby cry, and she’s barely out of delivery! Get her out of here!”
I scanned the room, locking my gaze onto Garrett’s parents, speaking loud and clear.
“You really think Abby’s boy can inherit the fortune?”
“Even when the lawyer gets here, she won’t get a single penny!”
