My Alpha Mate Kissed Another Omega On Stage, I Step Back To Fulfill Their Love Chapter 10

Lorraine’s eyes were bloodshot.

Her white blouse was marked with dirty footprints, as if she’d already been through something

before this.

“It’s all your fault!” Her voice cracked. “You should die!”

She charged at me with a silver blade in her hand.

At the last second, James threw himself in front of me, shielding me with his body.

The patrol guards rushed over and quickly subdued Lorraine.

An ambulance arrived within minutes.

At least Lorraine was only an Omega. She wasn’t strong enough to do serious damage. The silver blade had barely broken the skin.

The healer said James would recover after some rest.

Since he’d taken the blade for me, I called my commanding officer in Whisperwind Gorge and asked for a few more days off.

I sat beside his hospital bed, peeling an apple.

James cautiously reached out and tried to hook his little finger around mine.

I pulled my hand away.

Tears immediately began rolling down his cheeks.

James had never been much of a crier.

When I first met him, he’d get beaten black and blue in training and never shed a tear.

Now, he couldn’t seem to stop.

“I was wrong.” His voice was weak, thick with tears.

“I know I was wrong. I shouldn’t have…”

“Please. One more chance. I’ll give you everything I have.”

He grabbed at the bag beside the bed, spilling out a stack of documents-property deeds, asset papers and pushed them at me.

I didn’t take them.

Instead, my eyes went to his wound. It had split open with all his movements, fresh blood seeping

through the bandages.

I sighed. “James. It’s too late. There’s no going back.”

Not long afterward, an elder from the Wolf Council called me.

Lorraine had been found guilty of intentionally harming a pack member.

Her punishment was permanent imprisonment in the pack cellars.

When I told James, he just nodded. “Mm.” Nothing more.

After that came the flowers. Then the gifts. More flowers. More gifts.

Like he was trying to repay years of debt all at once.

Every card said the same thing. “I’m sorry.” Over and over.

In his clumsy way, he was testing to see if I’d soften.

The day James was discharged from the hospital, I insisted on returning to Whisperwind Gorge that

very night.

No matter how much he begged, I wouldn’t stay.

In the end, he silently escorted me to the edge of the territory.

“Nelly.” Just before I left, he spoke-to me, or maybe to himself. “How did we get here?”

I didn’t look back. “Take care.”

Then I walked on, until I was out of sight.

Life in Whisperwind Gorge was good.

James had been right about one thing.

I should have focused on myself a long time ago.

I built a new life. And eventually, I found a new mate.

On the day of our marking ceremony, near the end, I spotted a familiar figure in the distance.

I waited until everyone was gone before I went out.

James remained where he was, completely still. He didn’t react at all.

His beard was long, his cheeks hollow. So thin I barely recognized him.

“Why are you here?” I frowned slightly.

A bitter smile appeared on his face.

“After all these years, I still owed you an apology.”

His voice was quiet.”I didn’t realize back then. How much you gave up.

“I just never thought that when I finally turned around… you’d be gone.”

He looked at me. His fingers were clenched so tightly that the knuckles had turned pale.

A self-mocking smile tugged at his lips.

“Congrats. I hope you’re happy.”

I nodded and turned to leave.

“Do you hate me?” he suddenly asked.

I shook my head. “Not anymore.”

Hate was too heavy. So was resentment.

I walked past him, my face blank.

Behind me, I heard quiet sobs.

My mate came up beside me. “Who was that?”

I linked my arm through his.

“Just an old friend,” I said.

After that day, I never saw James again.

i heard from others that he had stepped down as Alpha.

He went back to where we first met. There, he opened a bar.

I looked up. The dark clouds had finally drifted away.

Ahead, nothing but clear skies. And a future filled with sunlight.
