My Alpha Mate Kissed Another Omega On Stage, I Step Back To Fulfill Their Love Chapter 07

Sitting in the car headed for Whisperwind Gorge, I watched the world blur past.

Seven years of love faded away with the wind.

I’d been in Whisperwind Gorge a full week before James finally caught on.

He called me over and over again. I didn’t pick up once.

The next day, I found him waiting outside the legion headquarters.

Dark circles ringed his eyes. He looked like he hadn’t slept.

“Nelly!” James practically ground my name out through clenched teeth.

“You should explain. Why did you join the Elite Legion without talking to me?”

I let out a short laugh. “I wasn’t hiding anything.”

“My resignation was on the bedside table for two weeks-Wolf Council approved.”

“If you’d looked even once, you would’ve known.”

His grip on my wrist stiffened. For a moment, he just stared.

Then he muttered, “I thought you were just mad. I thought it was another assignment.”

I met his eyes, calm. “James. I told you I wanted to break our bond.”

“I said no!” His voice shot up, then dropped when he caught the curious looks from nearby

warriors.

Jaw tight, he reached for me. “Come back with me.”

I stepped away smoothly. “No.”

His jaw twitched. He stood there, wrestling with himself-then dropped the Alpha act.

His voice softened. “Nelly, I was wrong. I know you’re mad. Just come home.”

“Come back with me, and I’ll cut her off. I swear.”

I looked at him coldly. “James. Wouldn’t breaking our bond solve everything?”

“You’d never have to worry about upsetting me. And besides -“I tilted

with Lorraine. Right?”

“Now you can stop hiding it.”

my

head.”

you’re already

The blood drained from his face. “You knew?”

I folded my arms and looked at him with open mockery.

For the first time, he appeared completely lost.

“No, that’s not…” he started, scrambling.

“Lorraine told me no one ever cared about her, so I just-”

I cut him off. “James. Do you even believe yourself?”

His mouth opened, then shut. All that confidence-gone. “I…”

I was done listening. I stepped around him and headed for my car.

A moment later, I spotted a taxi in my rearview mirror. James was still following me.

I was about to go inside when he blocked my door.

“Can we talk?”

The look on his face-that pleading-almost didn’t seem real. For years, I’d been the one wearing

Begging him to sit down and talk things through.

Every time, he’d brushed me off. Same words. Same impatience.

“What’s there to talk about? Stop being so dramatic. Don’t you have anything better to do?”

Now I threw them back at him. Word for word. The hit landed.

James staggered, swaying like I’d struck him.

The color bled from his lips. He gripped the doorframe, knuckles bone-white.

“I…”

A cold laugh escaped me. “Don’t remember saying that? Or the day you demanded I apologize to

her?”

With every word, what little color he had left drained away.

“I know I hurt you.” He looked at me, desperately grasping for something. “But that day- I was

drunk.”

“The lipstick-“His voice turned frantic. “That was Lorraine. She put it there when I was passed

out. I swear, it wasn’t-”
