Left in a Horror Game, Adopted by the Boss Chapter 08
The screen lit up again.
Three years ago, before the test server collapsed, Lily slipped into the control room while we were fighting off monsters.
She learned from the system guide that pulling the core stabilizer would trigger a three-person emergency exit.
At the time, our family had exactly four people.
Lily stared at the stabilizer for a long time. Then she reached out and pulled it.
The system sounded a warning, but she used Data Camouflage to erase the operation logs and changed her own HP to 1%.
When the footage ended, Mom was completely stunned.
She grabbed Lily’s shoulders, her nails digging into her skin.
“You caused the collapse?”
“And Nora getting left behind-you planned that too?”
Lily sobbed uncontrollably.
“I was afraid you wouldn’t want me anymore.”
“Nora had a talent. Sooner or later, you’d think she was more useful than me.”
“I just wanted to stay with Mom and Dad. What did I do wrong?”
Dad raised his hand in anger, but just before the slap landed, Mom instinctively pulled Lily into her
arms.
“She was just a kid. She couldn’t have known it would get this bad.”
Dad’s hand hovered in the air, then slowly lowered.
He glared at Lily through gritted teeth, cursing her viciousness, but he still stood in front of her against the monsters.
Seeing this, Lily cried even harder.
“Nora was the one born with an SS-rank talent.”
“If she were ordinary like me, I wouldn’t have been so scared.”
Dad actually turned to look at me, and a flicker of blame crossed his eyes.
As if my being exceptional was just another excuse for Lily hurting me.
I watched them quietly. The last ripple of emotion in my chest disappeared.’
The truth was right there in front of them, yet she still couldn’t stand to let Lily take a single slap.
Boss looked down at me and asked, “What do you want to do with them?”
I shook my head.
I didn’t want to waste Daddy’s power on them. I just wanted to be rid of these people.
The Main System sent an identity notice at that moment.
I was originally a human player, but after living in the test server for three years, my identity now
existed between two worlds.
The system gave me two choices.
Return to reality, and I would regain my SS-rank player status and receive all of the Hart family’s
seized assets.
Stay in the dungeon, and I would give up my real-world identity and officially become the heir of
Boss Lord Corvus.
Dad’s eyes lit up. He struggled out from under the monster.
“Of course she’s going back to reality!”
Mom echoed him.
“Nora, Mom will send Lily away. From now on, you’ll be my only daughter.”
Lily stared at her in disbelief, her face pale.
But I didn’t hesitate for a second. I placed my hand on the dungeon option.
Mom saw what I was doing and frantically pounded on the barrier.
She promised to buy me new clothes, redo my bedroom, and celebrate only my birthday every year.
I used to dream of hearing those words. Now I just wanted to get away from her.
[Player Nora Hart has chosen to remain in the Ultimate Dungeon permanently.]
[Real-world blood relation cancellation initiated.]
Mom completely panicked. She rushed over and grabbed my leg.
“Mom was wrong. You can hate me all you want, but I’m still your mother!”
Dad’s eyes welled up too. He kept promising to make it up to me.
I gently pulled Mom’s fingers off.
“Didn’t you already have only one daughter?”
A conversion halo surrounded me.
The system announced that identity cancellation required twenty-four hours.
During that window, my original guardians still had one final forced recall opportunity.
“Dad looked up at the notification, and something dark flickered in his eyes.”
